Very Bad sound quality on headphones w/ mic

I have a very strange problem, that I'm sure is software related. I have a set of headphones, that have a built in mic for handsfree calling (klipsch image s2 w/ mic).

Now the problem is that when I listen to music, the quality is horrible, with tiny, or nonexistant vocals, unless I hold down the talk button on the mic (headphone mic), at which point it sounds great, but goes back to sounding like crap as soon as I let go of the talk button. So far the only media players I've tried are mediascape, double twist, and meridian. All of them suffer from this.

My current solution has been to use the clip on the headphones to hold the talk button down. Anyone have a better solution?

I have found the type of headphones makes the difference.

If I use the Sony headphones that came with my phone OR Apple headphones they work great.

If I use Blackberry headphones then I get the distorted sound like mentioned in this thread.

Cheers.

** update

Also.. I purchased MWV900?? wireless headphones from Sony. THey work great through Bluetooth. Again, they are Sony so it fits with my earlier comment.

I found out that if i use ANY headphones other than Sony's it sound distorded. I tried it with Apple's, Panasonic's, Phillips. All sound the same...
