Alright so I received the spectrum from starscream earlier today... phone is very nice... my issue is that I booted into cwm and ran into what I know see is a boot loop issue... I did not flash the boot loop fix but did a battery pull not knowing about the boot loop issue... now the phone simply will not boot... does not respond to power button press... plugging in USB boots it but goes to a blank screen... and holding the cwm combo brings up the data wipe menu... press power button twice and it simply tries to do a regular boot.. I managed to boot up cwm randomly twice some how without using the key combo and I'm also able to use download mode... I believe it is running the ics ota and I remember seeing su so its rooted... any help would be appreciated

If you're able to use download mode as you say you are.... Just cab flash it. Should fix whatever issue it has.

If you didn't know, to get to download mode, you hold both volume buttons and then plug in the usb cable.

If you are getting to a black screen with the backlight on, it means you're in CWM, but your phone is too warm. It's an old issue that was never resolved. Leave the phone off for 10 minutes and then try going into CWM again via the button method.

Phone is not warm... been in this situation for about 6 hours... read through alot of posts and threads... seen alot of conflicting and confusing information.... and like I said... power button will not respond... have to plug in USB to make it boot at all and from there on key combinations work

It actually is the overheating issue most likely, there is a teeny tiny chip inside that triggers it, and it goes bonkers for nearly any reason, causes a whole bunch of weird powering on issues.

Pull the battery for a good 15 minutes, try again to get to download mode and use the cab flash method to get a working phone, then unlock the bootloader and root.

Should be good after that. V6 and earlier stock Roms had that issue more than V7 (no experience with V8, so I cannot say). The overheating security chip pops WAY before things get too hot; however the phone can start cooking with 4g and GPS, screen on and charging all at the same time, and it might not give you any troubles. Seems to be related to pre OS boot code. Don't get me wrong the phone will reboot before overheating while you are using it too, but it will take a lot more heat after booting up android.

Plugging in the usb to the computer had several interesting affects on the phone depending on the phone's current state, also watch out for magnets near the back of the phone, does some funky stuff there too.

Most of us learned a long time ago not to ask "why?"

I will try the cab method however I do not believe it is an issue related to heat at all... I played around with the phone for a second... booted into cwm and made a backup in preparation of doing some dev work... got the cwm bootloop issue... battery pull... bam im stuck in this state... if it helps I did see that the cwm version was the 5.x variant rather than 6... Im far from being a noob however I simply want to check in with the community simply because Im new to this device

If you can get back into CWM, grab the boot loop fix file in the forum or grab the v6 image and flash it to your phone. Either will clear the boot loop.

DO NOT flash the .cab if you are boot looping into CWM. You will be in perma brick. If you used the button combo to get into CWM v5, then consider yourself boot looped.

From there, if you have a voltage meter, check the battery. If you're not getting any response unless plugged in, I wonder if you have a dead one.

Try hard reset, batt pull, hold pwr and vol dwn while putting back in. If that dont work u gotta get into dl mode and flash v8 cab. Thought i read post saying ICS cab v7 is locked

I want to second this. If anybody knows what to do with this, it's Neph. He's basically responsible for getting CWM going originally and for unlocking the ICS bootloader.

Issue fixed... Its the extended battery that the phone was packaged with... it went dead... deader than I believed... :-\ ... charged at a blank screen for about an hour... booted cwm... flashed file... now I'm all good

Glad to hear it. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the Spec.

Quick note. If you are doing backups, make sure to use .tar archives. The blobs do not restore well on the spectrum. Being as you're doing Rom deving, it probably won't matter much, but just giving you that heads up.
