Help Very slow Tablet and short of memory...

I have a Samsung Note 1 (GT-N8010) and during this last week it has started to work incredibly slowly. Even getting things to open apps by wiping across the screen is difficult.

I hooked the tablet up to my Windows Explorer (xp) and had a look at to see what I could see:

It says that from a total memory of 11.5, 10.3gb has been used, and only 1.2gb left free; although I have no photographs, video or music on my machine and really use it mainly for reading the newspapers and browsing.

This is the following I could see from Windows Explorer:

Alarms 44.8kb
Allshare 0
Androids 168mb
Cloudagent 1.14mb
com.mobage 163bytes
Data 1.20mb (search 1.20mb)
DCIM 0mb
Documents 334kb
Downloads 245mb
Files 0
Image notes 0
Kingsoft 160kb
Moviemaker 0
Movies 0
Music 0
MxBrowser 61bytes
Nextbrowser 4.64kb
Notification 33.7kb
Peel 0
Pictures 9.07mb (screenshots)
Playlists 0
Podcasts 0
Ppcros 175kb
Ringtones 267kb
RWLIB 0
S Note 24.9mb
Samsung 169mb
Samsungapps 0
Saved email 2.14kb
TunnyBrowser 53kb
UCDownloads 58.9kb
Wdh update 0

That is all I can see from Windows Explorer, and of course that adds up to nowhere near 10.3gb. I am wondering what it is that using the rest of the memory, and will this be having an effect on the way the tablets (speed) is operating?

Kind regards

Patrick

Not sure what version of Android you're running, but more recent versions give a breakdown of how the space is used under Settings .. Storage. May be worth seeing where the OS thinks the space is being used.

Thank you, after having looked at 'Storage'...and more to the point, after looking more carefully, it seems that in fact I have a lot of pictures in the 'Gallery' app. I thought/assumed these were in my SD card but obviously they aren't. Obviously, I am not very familiar with tablets!

However, if I can move these pictures off my tablet and to somewhere else, I think things might improve. Can you tell me how I can move the photographs in 'Gallery' and put them somewhere else (either onto the SD card or preferably into my PC)?

Sorry - just spotted this.

Easiest way is to get a file manager from the Play Store (I use a free one called File Manager). Alternatively, you could connect the tablet to a PC and use Windows Explorer (Windows Key + e).

Android does tend to slow right down when internal storage gets full, however I would have thought 1.2GB would be adequate. Hope clearing space helps.

I use an app called Disk Usage to get a nice graphical representation of where my storage is actually being used. It can help give you a better idea of where your sore spots may be.

That's what I would have thought. I opened up Windows Explorer and expected my photographs to be in DCIM, where I could then move or remove them; but they're not (in DCIM). There are three sub folders in DCIM: 'Camera' 'Photo' and 'Video' and all three are empty. However, I can view all of the photographs in the Gallery, and I don't know how to either move or remove them. Any ideas?

I moved this to the Galaxy Note 10.1 forum where other device owners can lend a hand.:)

Use the My Files application preinstalled on the tablet and move those pictures, very simple.

If not, these pictures might be coming from your Picasa albums, you can uncheck photo syncing under Account settings for Google Account.

Thank you all of you, I have found the problem. It was a bit of an odd one but nevertheless, it may of be interest to you, even though it will probably not affect anyone else:

For reasons I shan't go into, I have (and use) about seven or eight different type of browsers, and I use each of them on a daily basis (for newspaper reading mainly). Unfortunately, I haven't been clearing the history as quite often as I should (never in fact) and it's built up to the point where there were thousands of old URLs. Everything was working in treacle.

It was sfbloodbrother the use of 'cache' that got me thinking, and when I looked there was thousands of references in the browsers.

Szadzik also pointed me out about the photographs sitting there in Google. I'd never have though to that one!

So, I have cleaned everything out and the speed is back to normal (I think).

Many thanks for all assistance
