Very sluggish Android

Hey I have a LG Optimus V with Android 2.2 and it has been running very sluggishly. Almost everytime I switch to another window or open an app or just interact with something (such as listen to music), it will pause for 4 seconds and then run. I think it's because I don't have that much space left on my phone's internal memory.

I have 35MB left but 900MB left on my phone's SD card. What do you guys think is the problem here and how I can solve it?

Thanks

Free storage has nothing to do with your phones performance. If your phone is behaving noticeably worse than it used to, a 'naughty' app is the most likely cause.

I really don't think it's caused by a bad app. The only apps I've been downloading are games recently. The only app that I can think of that might affect android in general is a locker app, but I stopped using that a while ago (even though it's still installed on my device).

Should I just uninstall random apps and see if I get any improvements?

Games are just as capable as any other apps of going 'rogue' (using system resources excessively).

You could randomly uninstall apps. You could uninstall all of them and add them back one by one until the problem starts. But I would consider these methods a 'last ditch' effort.

What I recommend you do is go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Running tab. Then see if any of the games/apps you downloaded are still running. If they are, go to Download tab and kill them. Then go back to Running. Is the app running again? If so, go back to Downloaded tab and uninstall it. That was probably your rogue app.

If none of your downloaded apps are in the Running tab, you can just force close them all in the Downloaded tab, then go back and check to see which ones re-opened themselves.

The slowness seems to happen the most when I'm in the SMS texting app. Sometimes after sending a text it would freeze up and not be responsive until after 10 seconds. Is it because I have too many texts saved up in my phone?

I've tried checking for rogue apps in the applications screen and aside from this Levelup app, everything else seems to be native android apps.
