Help Viber becoming Default on S3??

With a few friends of mine, when I send or receive text messages using the native messaging tool, it somehow converts it to a Viber message. Not all friends who are Viber contacts, or all iPhone users even. I originally thought I had a few friends who were trying to save money by not using texting. Turns out, they were sending it via SMS and I was receiving it on Viber. Any ideas? Viber website is not user friendly so no forum to post to there.
