video cannot be played

I have some home videos that I have tried to put on my phone. I have done it in the past with both avi and mp4 video and it worked fine. Now when I try to transfer the video (I've tried both formats) it will say "your device may not play this video" and when I try to open it on the phone, using several different players, it cannot play. These are normal file formats for this phone so I know that's not the problem. they are not protected videos. I've tried rebooting but it didn't help. So what else can I try?

An avi should play - try VLC. Mp4 is an envelope for many different video formats - the format of the video may be something you have no player for.

Thanks-I'll try that. In the meantime I found a program on my computer (it was a daily freebie or a deal I found or something that I forgot about) called winx converter and maybe I can do something with it.

mx player is one of the ones I have on my phone and had already tried. I converted a file using the winx converter and it has specific phone profiles, including the Gnex. So that worked. I just hate having to convert every file but it didn't take too long. I knew that I downloaded this program for a reason. lol

The original files are .avi. I have put avi files on my phone before without any type of conversion, even from the same recording device, and they played fine. The converter converted them to mp4.

And you just tried to play them through the gallery right?

That's really strange, and then they worked after the conversion...hmm

Looks like there are issues with android and avi files, weird...

Apparently some good go to apps are MX Player and Dice Player.

Sorry about this :(
