Video from flash drive via OTG cable?

Is it possible to view video from a USB flash drive on a stock Galaxy Tab 2 using an OTG cable?

I thought I'd read somewhere that I could, but it fails.

I see a UsbDriveA in my file manager, and it shows the files I have saved to the flash drive (both mp4 and pdf files). The pdf opens sucessfully, but the mp4 files fail.

"Cannot play video
Sorry, this video cannot be played"

since the pdf opens okay, I'm assuming that I don't have a problem with either the OTG cable or the USB flash drive.

Or wait... is mp4 incompatible with this device? Maybe I need to convert to a different file format? - No, that doesn't make sense... just checked, and the videos created using the camera app are saved as mp4.

MP4 is an envelope - it can contain various video formats. Try a few different video players until you find one that plays the format you have in those videos. (It's a lot easier than finding out which format your tab plays, then converting every video to that format.) VLC plays just about anything, so you might want to start with that.
