Video on S5

RROSSKOPF

Lurker
I can't get half of the YouTube videos to play on my S5. I'm a newbie, just so you know. I tried downloading Adobe Flash, but the website says that my device is not supported... What should I do to see YouTube videos on my Galaxy?

Use the YouTube app. Problem with Flash is that it doesn't support 4.4 KitKat, because Adobe have discontinued it. Think you can get Flash working though by using Dolphin plus JetPack, and a modified unofficial version of Flash. Haven't got exact details to hand at moment.

You got enough bandwidth? What's actually happening, errors, nothing at all, buffering?

What country are you in? Some videos might not be available, government censoring of YouTube, etc.

One video just showed a blank screen after I pushed the start button. The other gave me sound, but no picture.

OK I've had that happening, even on a PC sometimes. It's a YouTube problem, found it myself and others have commented about it as well. You can try refreshing or reloading the page, or just try again later.

I don't think this is a YouTube problem. I am also experiencing problems with YouTube on my S5 (purchased yesterday). Any video: 30 seconds in the picture freezes (audio continues). If I move the timeline position cursor, the video will start again, but after another 30 seconds, same issue, every time. Again, this is a brand new phone, so it's not being bogged down by apps, etc. (I've hadn't had time to load any).

This happens regardless of whether the connection is wifi or network (and continues to happen with full signal on either).

The last two days on my motorcycle forum there have been complaints of YouTube errors in abundance.

There is something going on with YouTube and I don't know what it is.

YouTube will NOT work on my FireFox browser and has not for months.... nothing I've tried will make it work.... Chrome and IExploder work fine usually.... except for the last couple days.

I haven't had any issues on any of our computers or even on my 4 year old Droid Incredible. Only time I have a problem is on Samsung S5.

Proton Browser is a free app that seems to handle the videos pretty well. I couldn't get it to work on SouthWest Airline's WiFi though... they said I needed Adobe?! I prefer to use Chrome, but Chrome doesn't seem to handle the videos as well...

Appreciate the heads up on Proton, but it's not really a matter of finding a workaround. If the S5 chokes on the YouTube app, I'm returning it.

Well, it ain't the S5 in general that is NOT working.

I just now brought up the YouTube app that came supplied on the S5 and am watching a video of last night's David Letterman show with James Franco on it right now. All five plus minutes worked just fine.

by "in general" I meant that all S5 phones are not experiencing what you are having problems with.

Semantics can lead us astray.... we do not all interpret the same sentence structure exactly the same way...

My S5 works on YouTube, yours does not. Why? Don't know, I can't see your phone and how it is configured.

Maybe your phone has an issue that can be resolved by a Factory Restore to Factory Defaults. I just did that yesterday and solved some of my problems. If that does not work for you, go back to the store and ask them to show you another phone that will work on YouTube (via WiFi it will work fine w/o being registered). Once you see that, exchange it and all should be well.

I used my S5 on WiFi only for a week before I registered it to Verizon. Was able to do anything it was supposed to do except make phone calls or Text messaging.

Sure I understand that not all S5's are doing this... they would have been recalled by now. That's why I posted wondering if anyone else is having a similar issue.

Factory Reset is a good suggestion (sometimes things get "magically" fixed"), as well as swapping this particular unit out with a phone from the store that doesn't exhibit the same problems. Thanks for the suggestions.

What I'm finding at the moment with YouTube, and some friends in the UK have told me about this as well. I have no problem with the YouTube app, that always plays just fine on a Samsung and an Oppo phone. It's using YouTube in a browser with Flash is where I'm seeing problems, and that's on a PC and a Mac. Sometimes it's black with just sound, sometimes there's picture but no sound, occasionally the video just stops and gives snow, like an untuned TV set, along with an error message suggesting that I should try later. Then have to reload the page to get it to work.

I am using a VPN to get YouTube because of where I am, but I'm sure it's not that as the YouTube Android app always works.

.

Same thing here, it will NOT play with Firefox on my Win7 desktop pc.

It will work with Chrome and IE though....

YouTube has problems and they need to get rid of all the Flash junk since it is no longer supported.
