video playback problems - galaxy S3 mini

hi guys, noob to AF here, but it feels like a good place already.
i got a samsung galaxy S3 mini for my birthday 2 weeks ago - for some reason when i try to view videos i've taken via the camera function it either says it cannot play the selected video or the whole video is played in a split second and i have no idea how to solve it!
any help would be much appreciated but please bear in mind i m a pure donk when it comes to technology!

The video is played by a video app. The ones you can't play are n a format you have no app to play. The ones that play fast are either short (you thought you were taking 2 minutes of video but only had it going for 2 seconds) or the format isn't being understood by the player.

Find some free video players on the Play store and see which ones work best with your videos.
