Video player app m4v

dmelhorn

Lurker
I am searching for a video player app that can play m4v files, but it needs to be able to allow you to change between the chapter bookmarks, like how QuickTime does it. I am a apple product fan and use an iPhone for this currently and have been wanting to switch over to android. But as far as I can tell there are no video player apps that do this. Does anyone know of an app that can do this?

Thanks

I'm not sure about the chapter playback, but your m4v video files can be played by most of the video players. The only issues may happen if these are DRM protected Apple Itune vidoes (Apple sells you the media, but you still don't own it 100%...).

I kind of figured that they could play m4v files. But yeah what is important to me is the chapter selection. I am a volunteer in the deaf community, and we use video files that are in asl to teach them. And the files are split up by the chapters so I need to be able to quickly switch between the chapters.

If you can't find such an application, then one way to do this would be to split a video into as many pieces as chapters. For example on PC you use a video editing software (I like Avidemux for example), and chop the video to 5 pieces if there are 5 chapters. Move them all to a separate folder on SD card, name the pieces properly, and you can select to play them instantly. :)

I am also a volunteer in the deaf community and use ASL videos. I have found a video player that supports unlimited bookmarks but I had to create my own. I have the bookmark files by chapters and verses. The bookmark file are very small, only 1 or 2 Kbs each. The name of the video player is MVideoPlayer.
Let me know if you are still needing this. I should be able to help you through this. I may be able to do the files for you or provide you with the files you need.

@brorchbrwn, i have multiple android users who as well need these files for deaf volunteer work. Tired of apple users saying i need to get an ipad for cienega or whatever its called. Appreciate any help. Thank you.

There seem to be an awful lot of us here who volunteer in the Deaf community! ;)
(We're in the SASL field in South Africa)

Just a observation: VLC Player lists M4V Chapters as one of it's capabilities. Have you tried it on Android yet? In Linux (& Windows, I presume) it does respect Chapters.
1) Shift-N (Next Chapter)
2) Shift-P (Previous Chapter)
or (3) drop-down "Playback" - "Chapter"

(I'm still waiting for my Nexus7 to arrive, so can't test it in a Tablet yet)

Hi,

I am yet another volunteer in the deaf community. I use a program for an IPad that rocks, I am looking to get some ideas on making some software for android phones and tablets.

I was chatting with another volunteer the other day and he was telling me about xuggle.com as a way of accessing data and playing it in the video player that they have built in. If there are any other programmers that have insight into it please let me know.

I am looking to 1) make a java program for pc that reads M4V files. 2) Creates a database of these chapters and then if the file database is found for the M4V file it will then allow the user to manipulate the playing file by means of the chapters/tags found in the file. 3) Make and app for Android that can use the same database of chapters and m4v files to make a playlist. I feel a section of the program should have a categorized pictures as well as where a different listing to show where they came from.

Anything missing "deaf community volunteers"? :)

This program will be made not for profit.

Please let me know your thoughts.

For all that want these bookmark files for use in the deaf community, please contact me at rb0549363@gmail.com. Please state specifically what you need these for. (I am leary of forums and social networks, so pardon my caution.)

I am also a deaf community "volunteer" :)

just starting to learn how to program at work

if any of you other "volunteers" that can program and want to share ideas please Feel free to PM me i'm thinking best way to get started is to set book marks in video player via time stamp i think there is already code on how to do that on stack over flow i will be working on this project but have very little time right now.. the iOS app is Awesome! but us android users need something too

I use mvideoplayer old (version 2.9.3). There is a way to extract time-stamp files from .m4v files, and convert these to files that mvideoplayer recognizes.

Hello, how are you?
Sorry, but I'm using the google translator. I'm from Brazil and I participate of Brazilian sign language as a volunteer. I saw your post about a program that supports the chapter to m4v to android. Use many videos in this format to teach the deaf. I'm looking and can not find anything that would assist in this regard.
Pose help me?
Thank you very much and look a Reply
