Videos not playing in various browsers

Well, my other thread is getting no love... :( So how about this?!

I recently posted that, with Chrome, videos play just fine--but without sound. So I tried other browsers a few days ago when I wanted to see a specific video. [It's not on YouTube, so that wasn't an option.] Here's what I got:

Firefox

Opera

DuckDuckGo, before and after touching it

In each case, I have the most recent version; I double-checked in Play to see if there were updates--there weren't.

I was finally able to watch the video by using Epic, a browser I don't even recall hearing of before.

Any ideas?

Moto Z² Force, Oreo 8.0.0, not rooted.

just curious, why not use the ABC-Live TV app? it does not need a browser.
Because the bigger issue is separate from ABC. :) It could've been any clip.
Thanks, I'll take a look.

Just thinking out loud here, but if you're already using the most recent version of a browser--a big, major, well-known browser!--you wouldn't expect to get that error message, right?
i just went into chrome on my note 10+ and had no problem playing videos with sound. im using chrome 83.0.4103.96
Hmmm... I think there's just something flaky about my phone. Luckily, it only rears its ugly head on the rare occasions when I try to view a video in a browser.

never seen that message before. i only knew of html5 and never heard of hls, until now. if i ever want to stream something i use the appropriate app instead of the browser.

curious as to which browsers you have tried?
