View webcam

Hey,

New here!

I have a HTC Desire HD, and was wondering if i would be able to view my computers webcam through my phone whilst i was out and about?

I have a iMac and a normal windows laptop and was unsure if there was an app that allowed me to view their webcams whilst not at home.

I have the app, IP cam viewer lite, but i cant get to grips with it because it confuses me! If there is an app that requires me to get a usb camera that would be alright but if there is one for the inbuilt webcam, that would be great!

Cheers

Your webcams should have come with software to allow you to just go to your browser, type in an address, and view your webcam. If not, there are a lot of software on the pc that will do it. Or, you can use remote desktop apps, like PhoneMyPC.

Try Ustream (free and paid accounts-but free works perfectly well), you just have to create an account and have the webcam streaming (also can play recorded videos). Drawback is you have to search for your webcam each time you want to view it-in my experience anyway. You create keywords for your stream which enables you to search for it. Works amazingly well.

really a very awesome software that can run on windows might be worth checking out. Its called blueiris. Pretty much can turn your webcam into a security system... And its easily viewable if you know your ip address or have a dyndns account. It doesnt need an app for iphones or androids or windows mobile. It just works. You do have to know how to open a port on your router and a few other small things, but you can set it up to send you a text message, picture message the second motion occurs on your webcam. Also you can make it set off an audio file you have selected.. like an alarm. Then you just have a lil shortcut on your android homepage and you are watching whats going down immediately.

It works with webcams, ip cams, and more.. I talk with the developer every now and then and prolly by spring there will be an android app that can remotely disarm/arm the system and watch pre recorded motion events as well. Oh yea and there is a 15 day demo to try it out... And it can use the cam in your laptop... but the software isnt mac compatible.

Hit me up if you want some help with it.

I use VitaminD in combination with Splashtop. VitaminD is a pretty sweet software that turns you webcam into a security camera and has very nice motion sensing technology so you don't have to thumb through hours of video to see what you are looking for. It has a free version, which i use, which only supports one camera at a time and doesn't allow alerts when your motion sensor is tripped, but the $50 paid version allow multiple cameras, alerts and much more. Splashtop is $5 on the android market and is the best remote desktop app i found for the money on android, and i have tested several.

Basically gives be the ability to remotely log onto my computer and use the security software. I also use Zumocast on my phone to remotely access the files on my computer to be able to upload video to facebook, email or anything else you want to do with the video.

Happy to answer any questions you have if you cant figure out what i am talking about! :D

Agreed, Vitamin D is very solid. A bit of configuration and setup required.

For a cloud service, I'd recommend Camcloud. It's simple to use and they just released an HTML 5 mobile site that works pretty well with Android devices.

good luck,

If i have 2 android devices is it possible or is there an app for controlling one device with the other. Samsung galaxy camera can be remotely controlled with a galaxy phone. Can i control one phone's camera with a tablet or another phone?
