Help viewing thumbnails on PC

So I have the HTC One X Plus and this is no.2.
I cannot view the thumbnails on the PC via explorer for the photos I have in the DCIM folder.

I think the problem is I need to chose how the phone connects via USB to the PC - ie as a mass storage device - but I can't see how to do that.
My old desire had a number of options and it was always connected as a disk drive and no issues.

Can anyone advise?

I noticed this as well. From other threads I've read, it seems the HOX+ uses a different file transfer protocol and that is the reason (I don't recall, off the top of my head, the name). It's supposedly less error-prone, especially if you forget to unmount before disconnecting but has other issues like not being able to use the phone as mass storage.
The same thread mentioned rooting and flashing a different ROM could change it.
If I find the thread, I'll come back and post a link.
