Virgin finally gets LTE

Why is there so much hype with lte? Sprint lte is practically nowhere right now except a FEW cities and still spotty. Sprint wimax and evdo (3g) are slow anyway. Why don't you guys come to T-mobile or something like me (no im not gone lol) and buy a nexus or something...
Metro pcs lte is not real 4g and can barely reach 10mb a second. Some people even clocked in only 3 mb a second.

Hspa plus is technically 3g but many times faster than metro's lte and sprint wimax. Its also much more expanded. :)

Sprint is already started on the big cities and is in 50 others lol

Slowly LTE moving east from the bay out to Sac. Wonder if we will still have our choppy wimax once it's here?

Except that T-Mobile is not only putting LTE in MetroPCS locations. For example, the first two T-Mobile LTE cities are Las Vegas and Kansas City -- I don't believe MetroPCS has stores in either city. Unfortunately, I can't find anything about exactly what cities, or the timeline, of where T-Mobile has plans to add LTE service.

What I meant was that the merger is not particularly useful, especially since Metro PCS speeds are not particularly fast.

Looks like Sprint LTE is replacing WiMAX in the bay. I'm now unable to get 4G on my EVO V 4G in Bay area. This really is disappointing

Till 2015. And to the users who wanted to switch to get the s3, buy a sprint one and bring it over to VM. Virgin Mobile now allows sprint phones.

was thinking of that but virgins issues are getting to me plus by the time lte rolls out will be o late for me. Gonna probably go Tmobile s3 and then $30 plan. Plus merger with MetroPCS will only increase speeds.

Plus I don't think the sprint s3 will get wimax and it won't get lte so useless virgin 3g would be hell on a super good phone

Have you seen an announcement yet? I understand Sprint has stated that they will allow their MVNOs to use Sprint phones, but I've not yet seen anything from Virgin. Additionally, the announcement I saw claimed Sprint would allow "will allow the carrier's old, deactivated handsets". It sounds like Sprint will not allow newer phones, such as the S3, to be moved.

Until Virgin Mobile has a procedure in place and it is specified what phones can be moved, I think I'd stay skeptical that you will be able to get newer phones moved over.

I called virgin last night about the announcement and I specifically asked if I could bring my sprint gs3(even though i don't have one) to VM, and she yes. She could be untrained though so we can't totally say if we can or not.

Until it's posted on their website I definitely wouldn't take the word of a customer service idiot.

You could actually understand a CSR from Virgin Mobile? You are my hero. :D

Good points. Here's a link to Sprint's official press release. Building on the above -

The quoted Sprint executive in the official Sprint press release, Matt Carter, is President of Emerging Solutions & Global Wholesale. His group deals with non-Sprint entities like Ting, Republic, Voyager, etc. If Ting/Republic/Voyager want to do certain things, they have to go through Matt's group to get approval. However, if Jeff Auman, the VP in charge of Virgin Mobile USA, wants to do something, he does not have to go through Matt; Matt's group doesn't set policy or procedure for either Boost or VM USA.

When VM USA announces something (like a new phone/plan/whatever), the press release usually appears simultaneously on both the Sprint and VM USA websites. There is nothing on the VM USA site about BYOD. BYOD could happen for VM USA and Boost, but this particular press release isn't evidence of that.
