Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710

Well i still have Kit Kat on my phone, and it's working fantastically. I already had everything taken care of before Britton posted the SD fix unfortunately, but i'm glad others found it helpful!

The only thing i did differently was NOT flash the rom from XDA. i just installed the tar, philz recovery, and did a factory reset from recovery for good measure. once i had it up and running, i restored some of my apps with Titanium backup and everything is working beautifully

The only issue i'm still having is sometimes GPS has a hard time locking onto me, but it usually corrects itself after i back out of navigation and click back onto my route again. this was not an issue before the update

other than that, i'm very happy i took the plunge, and i hope this helps others who may have had issues after flashing the deodexed rom from XDA

Im on stock 4.1.2 mg2 with philz recovery and rooted. Do I need to be unrooted and have stock recovery to get the 4.3 update that keeps popping up on my phone? I want to also be able to update to 4.4 when it notifies me as well. If I do need to be unrooted and stock recovery, how do I unroot and how do I get stock recovery back? And Is it possible to get philz recovery and root again once 4.3 and 4.4 have been applied to my phone via ota?

Thanks

You can just grab one of the flashable zips for 4.3 but for the 4.4 update, if you want the ota, you need the stock recovery.

in phil'z recovery

I used the stock 4.3 recovery with odin and it worked. After I successfully upgraded to 4.3 I had a notification of a system update. I assume this was the update to 4.4.... I chose to install the update and my phone rebooted to install the update but immediately it gave failed message and rebooted back into 4.3... Now I don

I am stock.

So you flashed mk5 tar, got the 4.3 update via ota, and then it said you had ANOTHER update, and you tried flashing it, and it failed? That's strange. Something didn't download to your phone from the 4.4 OTA then. Maybe try a factory reset and see if the update notification comes back?

I quoted my first post so you would know what's going on.

You need the stock recovery system !! The update will uproot your phone !!
it might be best to run the full tar file threw Odin !!
