Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710

So just to be clear -

I have stock 4.3, rooted with Philz Recovery and MK5. I think a lot of people are where I am. I have yet to receive any OTA notifications, and, from what I understand, won't until I go back to stock recovery.

Can someone please link how to get back to stock recovery? I haven't seen a definitive link to this yet.

Thanks

I wonder if you're completely on stock mg2 stock recovery if you can just go to the 4.4.2 ota update without the mk3 because I still have the mg2 boot loader

Had the OTA hit my phone this morning went to apply it and it started installing and then in the middle of it stopped installing and rebooted phone is still on 4.3:mad:

Before I got the update I already had reverted back to the stock recovery so not sure why it didn't push it through. I wonder if its because I had the knox flag from when I originally rooted.

You know, you're not the first one that's had this happen. That might also explain why the update.zip won't flash in stock recovery. I'd be interested to see if there's anyone who has successfully gotten the update through OTA who had Knox tripped prior to updating. If it won't work, then you all better hope the tar ball gets captured soon in Kies. That might also be why no one can get it through Kies. Can anyone who has a family member with the S3 not rooted check to see if they can see the update in Kies?

Can someone help with a question I have?
When the KK 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710 update does arrive on our phone, where is the update stored on the phone before it's actually installed? I was hoping there is a way to grab it before it actually gets installed.
Thanks

In your cache file. But someone's already snagged a copy of it. See a few pages back :)

I am on a 100% stock non-rooted S3 and used Kies too see if the KitKat NDC build was available there, unfortunately its not.

Here's the post with the NDC update.zip linked. Boost and VM should be exactly the same.

Is this the update for 4.4 KitKat for us that are on a stock non-rooted phone?

Since someone over in the Boost forum (see JD's post above) was able to capture the OTA zip for us, I edited out a few asserts and it should now be flashable via custom recovery. Uploading to AFH and I will post a link when it's ready.

Well I'm on complete stock mg2 and it just wants to push the mk5 via ota and also via kies I don't know if I should take the leap to knox

Read my post over at the other forum brother. Sprint users tried flashing KK over JB through custom recovery and it doesn't take. In order for TW 4.4.2 to work you have to be on the KK boot loader and modem, neither of which will flash in cwm. Just be careful is all I'm suggesting.

Actually, I took the plunge and flashed Sprint ND8 to my phone and was using the ND8 modem. I flashed the MK5 modem to the device and used this to patch it up to the NDC modem. Works great. I have not tried anything with the bootloader, though, for my own purposes, I commented those out of the updater-script. The system file patches work just fine, other than the Knox stuff since I was using your MK5 zip (you wouldn't happen to have one with the Knox apps in them, would you?). The updater-script, however, runs out of space while installing. I haven't quite figured this out as there should be plenty of space on the /system partition for it to work it's magic. I am trying to apply it from a clean install of MK5, though. Are there files on the /system partition that get erased after first-boot?

EDIT: For now, I'm just trying to get this patch to work for people who have flashed the ND8 tar and want to go to NDC. We'll see what happens; I'm sure there will be a working tarball before I figure it out but I enjoy a challenge.

When you flashed the MK5 modem while on the ND8 bootloader, I'm assuming it didn't work? I will look to see if I have a knox'd up version of MK5 around. If not, it will be easy enough to cook it up. And I am not sure if anything gets deleted but I wouldn't think so. And the updater script should have plenty of room, especially if you're replacing lines one for one.

Ok you guys twisted my arm so I'm now Knox up on the mk5 100 % stock on 4.3 not rooted or custom recovery will wait to see if vm kit Kat gets pushed.
