Root [Virgin Mobile] Cyanogen Impressions

Chiral

Android Enthusiast
Since CM10 is still in Alpha, I thought it would make sense to have a general impressions thread for Cyanogen so that we can keep the official release thread uncluttered and focused on debugging/dev useful stuff. This thread is more for things we love about CM, things we'd like to see, things we actually (gasp) prefer about Touchwiz.

So, I'll start:

The good: I friggin LOVE the ring+text battery icon in the noti bar. Pure love. Web browsing is super smooth, even at 1.2. With an embedded video player window, there is no jump from the browser to the player, the vid player acts like it's really part of the page. Even hitting back to exit a full screen stream, it zooms like it's part of the page. Never seen that before. Native notification LED control is just superduper.

The bad: a lot of settings are missing compared to the more mature CM7 releases I was used to on my OV. Call blacklist is a big one. To be expected. Not a complaint.

The ugly: Trebuchet kinda sucks. Can't hide apps, no folders...easily fixed with a new launcher. Minor complaint.

On the whole, I friggin love it. Can't wait for it to mature into customized branch builds.

And another big THANK YOU to the poeople who brought us Cyanogen!

I haven't been able to play around with CM10. CM10 was a work in progress for the Motorola Triumph with a non-functioning camera which is a no go for me. The camera is one of the more important pieces of equipment as I am an outdoors kinda guy and enjoy taking pictures out in the woods etc.

I cannot wait for a beta release to be published and then maybe I can add a thing or two to this wishlist.

Chiral,

Thanks for starting a new thread for this. The ROM forum is getting slammed like normal :D hopefully we should have more issues resolved this week. I have been focused on GPS and also Bluetooth. Charishot has been working on solving DRM and also MP3 playback which will be huge as those files also will be associated with the camera as well for recording. As for another launcher I recommend Nova. I have been using it through CM9-CM10.2 and it's very customizable and is very fast!

The ROM is great! Very smooth, even though the max CPU is only 11xx. Hopefully overclocking will be implemented soon :) my only problems are the low signal WiFi reboot issue, the mp3 playback issue, and not being able to receive MMS. Other than that the ROM is amazing :)

I cant express enough how much I love that so many things I usually need apps for are native in this rom.

We won't be adding over clock of the kernel as CM will not support it as a supported ROM. However that doesn't mean great devs (JerryScript) can't create custom kernels

Oh, another thing I love, data indicators on the WiFi icon. Awesome.

The browser doesn't seem to like letting me click on small links though, i'll get used to it.

For some reason I got insane random Reboots in my testing. Perhaps the dl was bad and I will definitely try again. However when it was working, it was great. Exactly what I've wanted for this phone even being 4.1.2, just the lack of Touch wiz is enough to fall in love ;-) glad the geniuses are making amazing progress for this unloved device

am I a total dork if I'm even using cyan tapatalk now? Naaahh

Somebody requested a few CM screens. Here's a few of the new menus. Oh, and the charging LED works even when the screen is on, ftw. Dunno about the notification LEDs yet.

On the 5th pic, you will notice the notification drawer option. It allows you to customize which icons show up in the drop down menu (which I can't screenshot). I currently have WiFi, airplane mode, silent, LTE data and 3g data on the drop down as toggle icons.

And yes, you're a dork.:thumb:
