Root [Virgin Mobile] Finally upgrading from the S2 to the SIII

Hey guys,

So, as the title indicates, I'm finally upgrading. Now I definitely want to root my SIII and put a custom rom on it but I'm looking all over these forums and I am confused. I get the basic idea about how to root but when it comes to flashing custom roms, I am at a loss.

And then there's the news about the 4.3 update coming soon. So what I want to know is, when I root my phone, I can flash basically any rom as long as I have the right kernels and such for Virgin Mobile.

Also, I was thinking that I'd probably get a Sprint rom and have to change it to virgin mobile.

Any help to get me started on this upgrading process is well appreciated.

With the Sprint roms, you will need to flash one of MopedRyder's sprint to vm mods. You will probably have to choose betweeen working 4g or working mms. It takes some tinkering. You will have to change the assert lines in the updater script for whatever rom you choose. Check out struckn's post All-In-One Guide for Modifying Custom ROM's for some very good instructions.

If you want absolutely everything to work, check out MopedRyder's stripped stock rom, or the Midnight rom.
