This was originally a post looking for answers to things that may have been left unclear in both sticky guides. All my questions have been answered and my phone was successfully rooted. The first post was edited to document these questions in case someone in the future has similar issues.
Don't forget - ALWAYS backup before flashing and ALWAYS document your work, no matter what you do!

Q: Will this guide work with the most recent updates? I've seen videos and guides for up to 4.3 but my S3 came with 4.4.2. Or does the version of the stock OS not matter at all?

A: After you complete the steps in the guide, let SuperSU update itself from Google Play (or do so manually) then open it (If it force closes when you try to open it, then it's either updating or it needs to update). Let it update binary, then select "Normal" in the next popup, and then have it disable KNOX. (Source) - Watch this video further to learn how to verify if you rooted your S3 successfully.
By the way, if SU is "stuck" on disabling KNOX, force close it, open it up again, then try again and it should then work. (Source)

Always do your research. The overall process takes less than 5 minutes, but don't be afraid to do some research if you still feel a bit insecure about this (like me). Rule 1 of rooting: STICK WITH A SINGLE GUIDE!! If you mix up steps from different guides, you may end up bricking your phone. Find a guide, and stick with it until the guide ends.
If you can't find anything through research, ASK. No one was born knowing. It's OK to ask questions.
Major credit to the creators of the guides, videos, and special thanks to pOsSuM72, hatredg0d and pbailey212 for helping me out when I needed it. If further questions arise, I'll document them here.
Happy rooting!!

Q: Most of the download links (LiquidSmooth, Philz) redirect to a directory, through which it isn't easy to navigate as I'm unsure of where to go. For instance, within LiquidSmooth's directory I found the folder for Galaxy S2 Sprint, but nothing like that for S3.Just to clarify, the 4.3 guide works for 4.4
Do not flash a older Stock version of android. Custom roms are ok.
Do not flash any modems.
Both could end in a brick.

It would be called d2lte on the liquid smooth and philz download websites. Make sure you download the .tar on philz and flash using Odin.
Sorry. Go to the nightlies folder, and go to the s3 unified. Check your baseband on about phone. Are the last 3 characters nd8 or NDC? If so, don't worry about flashing radiosLS: http://www.drdevs.com/devs/teamliquid/Kernels/d2lte/LiquidSmooth/ - shows two folders, both of which are empty. Tried browsing in other subfolders but I can't find d2lte anywhere else.
Q:And you can use the latest philz, the guide is outdated. The md5 is so Odin knows your file isn't corruptedPhilz: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/ - debating whether to go with 6.19 and stick to the guide or getting the latest release. Also, it's an *.md5 file (*.tar.md5) (...)
A: Go ahead and proceed with the guide. Even though it "seems" to be downloading something, this will not interfere with Odin's process. Also, when you're done:I just reset it to download mode (Vol-, Home, Power) and it gave me the warning screen. I confirmed with Vol+ and now it's downloading something (Downloading... Do not turn off target!!) (...) Should I ignore it and continue with the guide? Or should I wait until something happens? (...)
Q: What now? How do I know if I'm rooted? Its fine to turn off, as long as you aren't in the middle of flashing anything.
