Root [Virgin Mobile] [INFO][REQ] Version2 JZO54K.L710VPAMG2 Phone info

MopedRyder

Android Enthusiast
<This is info I have been able to work out and request for info from other MG2 owners>

I have recently bought the:

GS3
JZO54K.L710VPAMG2

Taking off the back white cover it says: "PL710 2ND V2" and ">PC< #5-1"

The MG2 is stock Android 4.1.2 (Jelly bean). This also indicates that the stock bootloaders are JB MG2. For this reason I have not flashed the bootloaders located on the CM10.1 thread HERE.

What I have done so far:
I have flash the Sprint touch version of CWM HERE..
--I didnt flash G60's vmobi CWM because I wanted to flash Sprint ROMs. I hjave found that flashing his CWM causes issues with any Sprint ROM so I reverted to the Sprint CWM. I have rooted with the above as well.

So I have a Rooted CWM MG2 Stock Phone.

What I have been able to do:
I have successfully installed numerous Android 4.2.1 ROMs - but no higher. 4.2.2 doesn't work. It wont get past the boot screen. Ive got CM / BlackBean / and Slim to work do far. All without a working camera and LTE. I have tried numerous kernels and edits but have been unable to get higher than 4.2.1.

Question / Request:
Has anyone with a purchased MG2 (newer) phone been able to flash anything higher than 4.2.1? I am about to break down and try to flash the Sprint JB bootloaders, but I'm really not found of the idea of flashing bootloaders....ever.

Info on me:
Im not new to Android. I am NOT a developer but I've been around the block. I have ported / build several ROMs so I know how to sign / decompile / package jar/zip/apks. I used to call XDA home as Moped_Ryder.

So....If you have a newer MG2 phone what have you been able to do and what have you done to it so far?

I have mg2, 4.1.2 and it updated the samsung crap before I could stop it. But I have rooted and put CWM on it. Used the flashable zip from the superuser app in the play store (koush's, the icon is blue background w/ #), and the ODIN CWM from the new recoveries for new phones on xda (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2391616). Other than that, just freezing crap with TB.

*Edit: Imprint on my back cover is the same, but #8-1 instead of #5-1. I also bought mine from a Wal-mart, $349. Hardware version is L710.14

Also my storage drives (internal + external) shows up as:

External:
/extSdCard

and Internal as:
/mnt/shell/emulated
(what is bad about above is root required to open it)

Also when connected to my computer the internal sdcard doesn't actually connect to the computer.

My external card shows up on pc. I have debugging on and MTP connection. Do you?

Where did you find the /mnt/shell/emulated? I don't have that at all, sdcard or sdcard0 and extSdCard are the mounts on mine.

Give me info on your phone please. What version did you buy? Did you flash the Sprint Bootloaders? What version of CWM installed?

Look up.

MG2 out of the box, no bootloaders. CWM via ODIN from xda link (above), I don't remember what version it is and it was removed after reboot, I just found that out. I'll have to redo odin and make it stick this time. The MG2 has different mounts, that's why I used the ones for odin from the xda thread, kept seeing threads about people flashing but having mounting issues.

Thanks for the info. Yea I wasn't sure if you flashed the bootloaders or not. Really appreciate the info.

FYI - quick look at the recovery image from the sticky on this forum to the one you linked to shows they are the same.

Sorry I didnt answer your question - I had to use RootExporer app to find it.

For some reason, my phone refuses to boot anything besides Midnight or Punkroms. It seems like any kind of AOSP roms will not even get to the boot animation. Any of you guys have an idea of what it could be?

Do you have a factory MG2 phone? If so try a older ROM version. It has to be android version 4.2.1 and no higher.

Ok, I will try that. I took off my back cover and it is exactly what yours is. I just wiped everything and connected to Kies and it updated to MG2 a little while ago.

I just now flashed CW recovery and I'm about to root.

Are there any ROMS you'd recommend?
