Virgin Mobile New Plans

Check this out. They took data allotment away on the $35 plan. It seems to me Sprint is either getting very greedy with the data or trying to kill of their Virgin brand. Not only has it gotten skimpy on at least the $35 plan, their phone line up has went down the toilet. Not a good selection at all to pick from. Looks like a trend developing with Sprint / Virgin Mobile..

Oh and if you look at the $45 plan, you only get 500 MB extra for your $10 vs what you got on your old $35 plan. And yeah if you buy another device virgin will take your grandfathered plan....they always do. So considering their awesomely crappy phone line up as of late combined with these new "awesome" plans...is it really worth staying?? Not to me. The only plan above even worth considering is the $55 plan. And that is like paying for top service on sub standard devices...

I've noticed this trend as well. I agree on the phone selection. Seems to be going to subpar or high cost (iPhone). I've been happy with Virgin over the years but I fully agree with your comments.
Excluding folks within fourms that understand risk with tweaking the phone it does not appear to be catering to initial market.

I went with Virgin some years back mainly because I did not want a contract. Phones not the best but with rooting I have been content. And yes I hate to replace a bricked phone but replacing for less than $100 was doable.

With path they are taking now I may have to 'jump ship'. Not an Apple fan but as example why would I pay $600 for a phone and then limit my service.

If I am going to have to pay that amount I might as well just go with a carriers contract. They all say no contact but it still is. $20/mo phone plus plan fees.

Might cost more in the end but sorry $600 is not pocket change for me. Especially if having to pay lump sum.

I'll just find a pay phone and pick up a crummy car for $600 and physically drive to my friends houses to chat.

Probably what we should all be doing anyway.

I used to have virgin mobile as a service provider, then i made a mistake and went to sprint, who DOES NOT provide unlimited internet at a very affordable amount. Still trying to find a way to reprogram the tribute for boost.

The walmart data done right plan for virgin at $40 gives you 3 GB data while direct from virgin at $35 only gives 1 GB? Who the hell is scheming up this crap? You would think direct customers wouldnt get a 1.5 GB cut for $5 versus the walmart customers. And yet they took the volt and most of the other devices to the walmart side and left their main base with bullsh*+ phones. I think $55 for 8 GB plus unlimited is a crap deal. I would rather go contract, get a killer phone and just pay $80 and get 3 GB data and a Galazy Note 5 from Verizon! Why stay with these jokers?? No reason to do so.

Correction. That is $65 a month. For pretty much the same service I have now except no garbage network with dropped calls every place I go,spotty at best LTE and VERY low end phones...The service will actually be working properly and I get a note 5 for the extra cost on the plan...

@Curtis1973 - If you do test out a new provider could you let me know how they work out for you? PM me if works better for you. Like most I am looking for the most bang for my buck. Think forum users would be a bit more honest and forthcoming with pros and cons then the sales folks.

Soon they will do away with any allotment of high speed data and go all 3G. And wouldnt doubt that in time they limit it.

This post caught my eye and worried me, so I checked my account to see what mine said. It still says unlimited everything, so maybe this is for new customers? I'm a pretty longtime customer, and awhile ago I got a text saying they were giving me unlimited minutes on my plan as long as I kept the same device; but when I accidentally killed my Optimus F3 and had to switch over to this Tribute I thought it would go back to 300 minutes. It didn't, but maybe they just didn't notice.

But yeah about the phone selection. Wanted to upgrade my daughter's phone for her 8th grade graduation from a slider type, and was pretty shocked at how few options there were. Not only that, but I ordered mine off their website for $60 (25% off they said) - I found my daughters at Target for $40.

They took away our devices and added them to the walmart crap. Im highly pissed. Been with them since branson launched the company stateside. Seems to me Sprint is doing all it can to make virgin mobile a 3rd rate carrier vs their top tier sprint brand and second tier boost brand. I dont get competing against yourself...

I don't get it either. And I really don't want to give Walmart any of my money if I can help it. Seems like they're really trying to kill off the pre-paid sector.

I got tired of VM's crap, also. Just bought an Alcatel Idol 3 5.5" and activated it on StraightTalk (AT&T network). I couldn't be happier, great phone, unlocked from the manufacturer, unlockable bootloader, root and TWRP recovery already available on XDA. Just waiting for the custom ROMs to start rolling.

Not to rain on your parade, but the reason why we are talking about a ~$40 phone is because most of us can't afford a $250 Alcatel Idol 3. So we gotta work with what we already have. I have heard great things about the Alcatel though.
