Virgin Mobile offering 4G in June

Check the news stories on this website today to see the story. Basically they are going to use the existing Sprint WiMax network now that they are moving to LTE. The prices are better than Metro. They might be regretting those increases, especially since Virgin reaches more possible customers.

I, too, saw this. I'm going to have to wait and see how it pans out. I've paid for 12 months of metro already (paid out of my tax refund so I didn't have to worry about paying each month) so if I do anything it'll be next year.

What phones does virgin offer and how fast will their 4G speeds be?

Sprint's data speeds are awful so if they're gonna inherit those speeds they're not getting much. Prices will eventually have to go up to supplement the cost of more traffic on their network.

We'll see what happens..

EDIT: their $35 plan will have unlimited data and text with limited talk. good if you dont talk much. the HTC evo v 4g looks nice too.

I saw that the completely unlimited plan is $55, which is cheaper than Metro now. The speeds mentioned are slightly faster than I am getting on Metro LTE. I have hope that our speeds will get better, but with this company I am not going to hold my breath. I doubt that Virgin will up the price because Sprint moving to LTE is freeing up bandwidth. They are doing this so that it does not go to waste.

I personally will not be changing because I have a coworker right beside me that cannot get a Sprint 4G signal in the building and I can. It is not a strong one, but at least it works.

Good info. My concern for those with Virgin is whether Sprint has any plans to continue to expand the WiMax network or will it remain as is. Metro's network definitely needs work, but it is growing. Virgin today is essentially Sprint 3G without their roaming agreements to fill coverage gaps. Metro has roaming agreements for additional coverage (although I admitted the biggest player here is Sprint). I hate to say it, but I think Metro will just cost more than Virgin due to roaming agreements and funding for 4G expansion. Metro still has a long ways to go but maybe in time they will become a better competitor for the "big boys". Probably just wishful thinking on my part.

Overall I think Virgin is a great option if you get good Sprint WiMax coverage today though, especially for the lower price.

Even if they did raise the price if you jump on it now you'll be grandfathered when the prices go up.

Damn...I just picked up an esteem in February and a connect in march. I really don't want to buy another phone but this sounds like the way to go since metro 4g seems choppy as hell these days. :(

I was just browsing their site and it doesn't look like they have unlimited data. They have unlimited data messaging. Their data is only 2.5 gb a month regardless of any plan?
