What up fellas, Ok open up odin on your PC & uncheck auto-reboot, then select PDA & choose this tar file press start, once done hold volume up + power & home until you boot into recovery then choose the update supersu.zip, then reboot & presto recovery & root with the quickness.

What is the zip file for?

Does this cause the phone to be flagged as modified and reject future OTA's.

Installing latest custom recovery of TWRP via Odin and then installing SuperSU update zip file from recovery does same thing. The "root from recovery" file has been an issue for some users from what I have read in other posts as well.

Thanks! The CWM file in the OP download link you provided worked. I could never get the CWM file in "[GUIDE] Rooting & Recovery for Galaxy S3(VM)" to work. It would install, but I kept getting mount errors.
