Root [Virgin Mobile] Root on Mac

Hi,

I've tried rooting my victory on a mac using the directions found here: http://androidforums.com/virgin-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/729490-guide-rooting-recovery-galaxy-s3-vm.html

But it isn't working. Once I put those commands in the terminal all is well as it installs superuser, but then it just hits a snag upon rooting and just says "Failed"

I can't figure out what is wrong, and have found no other Mac OS x directions to root this phone.

Please let me know if there is something wrong with that method, or if a better one exists.

...using ROM manager to flash the recovery, IMO, is risky at best. Also, you'll want to use twrp, IIRC our backups won't work with cwm.

You can't steal the use of a Windows box for 5 minutes to use Odin? No programs to install, Odin runs directly from the .exe

Are there any functional windows emulators for Mac? It's not a resource intensive process to root.

Oh, and also, the point of download mode and a USB connection is to flash the custom recovery. Once you have twrp you use it to flash superuser and busybox, which is what gives you root access.

Adding Superuser & "rooting" via USB and then using ROM Manager to flash the recovery last doesn't even make any sense.
