I've read too many bad things on the Boost facebook page and Sprint community forum about people complaining about worse 4G reception so I refuse to update. It wouldn't be a big deal if you could flash different modems but once you have knox you are forced to use the most recent modem (NDC/ND8.) Occasionally you see a post from someone saying they get better reception with the new modem but if you do a little research you will see this is far from the norm.
If you prefer AOSP then I would say don't do it. For one, right now you can change modems whenever you want. And two, you can truly unbrick the phone with boot off the SD card method if you really screw things up. Once you have knox you won't be able to do either.
Hey, just wanted to post that, after the ota from 4.3 to 4.4.2 on my L710 S3, installing SuperSu and Busybox, I flashed LiquidSmooth 4.4.4 (Which was fine. Running Carbon 4.4.4 now, also fine, and after the vpn fix for Virgin Mobile, have a strong 4g/lte signal with NDC, havent tried flashing another modem, so I can't say anything compare modems) but then carelessly flashed an international rom (had to do it eventually) and I was still able to unbrick by booting a recovery image off the SD, even after having Knox. I had disabled Knox in SuperSu while still on the stock rom, but idk if that is why I was able to do it. That seems too simple to subvert an eFuse and/or whichever part of Knox would prevent booting from the SD (I thought android had to be able to do that but Knox is changing a lot) but it did work for me, and allowed me to boot to download mode and Odin back to stock 4.4.2 firmware, so that is possible. I arranged an exchange for the phone after I thought I had killed it, so, what the hell, when I recovered, it was play time. I even went ahead and even flashed stock 4.3 MK5 and it took it and downloaded the ota again, although wouldn't install it (might have been a fluke since I have had that happen before), hence the 4.4.2 NDC flash. When I got back to stock recovery, I was able to Triangle Away back to official status, Knox not tripped, even after flashing non-TW roms, which I have also read shoud not be possible. I've flashed back and forth from stock to custom a few times now, and same results. I know my CarbonRom is running the same NDC baseband/same modem as the ota (thought I had a screenshot of LS, I think it said NDC as well, but cant find it atm to confirm) but I have changed the bootloader and still not had a Knox issue. Again, I went from 4.3mk5 to 4.4.2ndc (ota), rooted with towelroot> supersu> disable knox (yes)> busybox> liquidsmooth 4.4.4> FlashingDroid (don't do THAT; its for i9300)=brick> booted into download from recovery img on SD> Odined 4.3mk5 and achieved official status> Odined stock 4.4.2 (official status. Cant recall if I needed Triangle Away that time but got official)> flashed CarbonRom=no problems. Knox is confusing a lot of people, so I'm just adding this in case it helps.
Either Knox is still mysterious or Jesus built this phone. I want to try a debloated TW based rom when a viable one becomes available (I really just need working tether and hate non TW multi-window (Carbon's "floating" is just poorly implemented compared to TW) and I am hoping that this isn't just luck, but this phone is working 100% without knox problems.
I wish I could say the same for my Galaxy Note Pro 12.2. Knox is killing me on that thing! Its still stock! Holding my breath for an undetectable root for a bit longer...
