Root [Virgin Mobile] [SPH-L710][CWM ADV.] OFFICIAL PhilZ-Touch Recovery 6.0 [11.24.13]

Just started a backup to the ExtSDcard, but not my original card.

My original card is a 32G card formatted in FAT32. The one it is currently creating a backup to is a 16G card formatted in FAT32.

I'm coping my 32 card to the computer now. Going to reformat the card again, copy files back, and see if it will create the nandroid backup to it.

I'm not so worried now if I can not get the nandroid to be created onto my 32g card. I know I can create it to the internal, move it to the extSD, and if needed; place on the 16G card to restore. Hoping I don't have to do it that way after I reformat the 32G card.

Thanks for the help and info.

Even when I wasn't able to backup to the extSD (64gb extSD in my case) I would backup to the internal and then with (any) Android file manager, move the backups to the extSD and was always able to restore from there. Not sure if that would be the same for you, but that's how I was doing it for awhile, until I upgraded Philz.

Just an update.

I can make a backup to the ext 16g card, but still can not to the 32g card. Strange.

I don't know if it will restore from the extSD with the 32g card, but it would make sense it could off the 16g card since I can backup to that one.

That is strange. I can make a backup to my 64gig Sandisk Class 10 just fine.

Does the recovery see that card OK? Put a .zip file on there and see if it finds it when you tell it to "flash zip from sdcard1".

Yes I also have a 64gb sandisk ultra that works fine in recovery or thru the phone I can save things on it or pull them off it with no issues

To anyone with a 32gb card or above I'm not sure if 16gb is the same but I know its like that for 32 and above, if you didn't change anything and just put the card in the phone and went its most likely formatted in exfat which is no good, recovery may and should be able to see or use it but the phone itself will eventually make that card unusable in anything at all, I've seen at least 3 different times when someone sdcard basically became trash due to exfat format on the s3

When I go to the the main download page, there is many different files to choose from.
The original link it looked like 2 different files could be used.
philz_touch_6.15.4-d2spr and philz_touch_6.26.6-d2lte. The latter is a new one I have not tried yet.

I noticed on the download page for Philz Touch Recovery, there is a I9300 and I9305. Is one of those the one I should be using for the Virgin Mobile Samsung Galaxy S3?

No; use this one:

Goo.im Downloads - Downloading philz_touch_6.25.0-d2lte.zip

Sorry..this is 6.25, not 6.26

following the link for the recovery shows many samsung phones. There is no listing for the Virgin Mobile S3 (this is one for sprint)

Any one have a copy of the stock NDC recovery.img? Lost my backup copy.

Is this what you want:

http://androidforums.com/boost-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/846158-kitkat-nd8-update.html

It's on the Boost side but works for VM as well.

Edit: looks like the OP took the links out of his thread... But look at post 245 of the thread.

Edit 2: OOPs, this is the thread that I meant to give you:

Sorry, I haven't seen just the stock recovery.

Just out of curosity... what you gonna do with the stock recovery?

What rom are you running?

Stock ROM. Just wanted it because I keep backups of all stock things, and I just realized my backup of the stock recovery got erased.

Here is a link to the NDC stock recovery.img

Yeah bro, I decided to upgrade and I must say that this phone rocks but I still think the Victory is by far the best phone anyone can ever get especially for the price!

Me too. All of the above. My wife broke the screen on her victory, so now she has mine. Victory looks kinda small after using the s3. Lol

I am trying to root a Samsung Galaxy S3 for Virgin Mobile but am unable to do it. Everytime I reboot to Recovery and try to flash the Philz files it tells me that "failed to verify whole-file signature"

I keep downloading the files to see if maybe the file was corrupted but the MD5 matches the file.

You can't flash Philz from the stock recovery. You have Odin the recovery tar file (not the zip). Follow the MK5 root sticky at the top of this forum. It's the same procedure for Kit Kat.
