Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Edited build.prop, now won't load

I made a change to build.prop (attempting to remove the boot sound), and apparently messed it up, because now I get nothing but a black screen after the LG logo. I've been attempting to create an update.zip from the stock recovery in order to push the original build.prop, but it fails at the verification stage and then aborts.

Anyone have a clue as to how I can get this working?

Boot into cwm recovery and edit the file from there. If you don't have cwm installed you'll need to unbrick.

You might try adb while at the black screen- sometimes it's already up.

I'm going to try ADB when I get home. I've just been trying out the update.zip thing while I'm here at work. I hope I'll be able to connect via ADB and just push the build.prop. Hopefully I don't have to resort to unbrick.

Well, I tried connecting to the phone via ADB, but to no avail. Running Windows 8 and with 2 different versions of the LG drivers, ADB would not recognize the device. I'm pretty sure that I had turned off debugging before me mishap. While in stock recovery mode, when I select to sideload via ADB, Windows suddenly doesn't recognize the device.

Anyone know how I can get it to connect via ADB, or am I bricked?

If you have cwm installed, just flash the stock ROM. Don't wipe anything. All of your settings and apps should still be there.

If not, follow the unbrick method.

I ended up just having to use the Unbrick Method from the stickies. Worked like a charm. There are few better feelings in life than bringing a bricked phone back to life :)

Agreed, Buster. May I suggest going over to our neighbor thread about the overclock kernel, now that you've gone through an unbrick? You could get set up with root, CWM, overclock, and a system update that won't break any of that (and doesn't upgrade radios, so hopefully will sidestep data throttling) and there's a very handsome fellow over there who's written an exhaustive guide on getting you there, ahem.
