Root [Virgin Mobile] Update worth it?

Not unless you really like TW. You can flash the ND8 or NDC modems and still use an AOSP based ROM. It is with my understanding that with the TW 4.4.2 upgrade comes Knox 2.0, but it could be different with the GS3. This means it'll be tougher to root and/or flash without bricking. The same goes with an upgrade to Android 4.4.3. They're tightening up security and plugging up holes in the system. If you really want the TW 4.4.2 upgrade, I would suggest staying rooted and flashing a ND8 or NDC TW 4.4.2 based ROM. There are already a few out there.

If you really like AOKP, they just released a 6/14 build which should be the 4.4.3 upgrade but I haven't checked it yet. There are also other 4.4.3 ROMs.
 
I'm not positive you can flash the ND8 or NDC modems without the matching bootloader. May cause brick. Read up first. I way be off on this but better safe than sorry.
 
No the modems don't work without their respective bootloader.

The new bootloader doesn't make rooting any more difficult than before.

Nice. So, they didn't do Knox 2.0 with the update. I read the reviews for the GS5 and they added a bunch of security updates. Guess it's probably not the same as our updates.

My friend has an unrooted Virgin Mobile GS3 and got the 4.4.2 update. I looked at and it seems pretty slick and got rid of some TW lag issues.
 
It's a pretty good update if you like the rooted stock tw feel like I do. the color emojis is a + for me. Simple but cool.

Be careful. Do not flash a NDC or ND8 ROM (zip) UNLESS you ALREADY have a NDC or ND8 Bootloader installed on your phone.

i am currently on 4.3 stock and i did the install without knox loader from the forums. if i let the update install will it brick my phone? im assuming it will update my bootloader but id hate to install it and have my phone bricked. thanks
