Root [Virgin Mobile] VM Galaxy S III - Android 4.3 Confirmed

Basically here's what I did:
-I went back to stock using this thread [GUIDE] Return VM Galaxy S3 to Stock
MD7/MG2 (I was running punkmaxx's slim rom)
-Then I downloaded the update to my computer
-Then I transferred it to my sd card in my phone
- Then I turned off my phone
- Once my phone was off I held down the power, volume up and home buttons
at the same time to get into recovery
-Then I selected apply update from external storage
-I used the volume up and down keys to select the update then I pressed the
power button
-and BAM! It applied the update and my phone restarted (It took about 5-10
mins)

Hope this helped!

Yes I'm curious if anyone has successfully re-rooted after the update. I don't see any reason why one wouldn't be able to. A custom recovery should install successfully.

I'm not so sure about that I think the Knox Bootloader might break any current custom recovery from what I read at the sprint forums.

Geez that is terrible.

Has anyone here successfully flashed a custom recovery after the update to 4.3?

EDIT: As peter counias mentioned earlier, it looks like Mobile Odin Pro can flash OTA update zips! It is supposed to be able to preserve your custom recovery (or custom kernel etc) but I don't know if Knox will later detect it and lock the phone down or what..

So what's so good about the update?

As far as I can tell if you prefer to be in control of your phone (custom ROM's, customization in general), then you probably shouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I've been running custom 4.3 since the day I got my phone, and have zero desire to be stuck with whatever Samsung thinks is desirable; from reading all the problems on the Sprint side, it just seems like Apple garbage to me. The beauty of Android is supposed to be how the user is in control, not the manufacturer.

Thank you for the input. This just stopped me from trying it. I like being able to do whatever I want to do. I'll stay away for now.

That is my take on it for now at least! I don't know if someone will be able to just extract the new modem and eliminate the Knox issues at some point, which may be where the future benefits would be, but for now it looks like MG2 and custom ROM's should be more than sufficient for rooted users who aren't complete noobs (and I mean that in the kindest possible way!). Having a hard time figuring out from some of the other threads if Knox actually stops custom recoveries and custom ROM's or if re-rooting and flashing custom ROM's (and kernels for that matter) just trips Knox so that your warranty is void. I kind of suspect that it is the second scenario, in which case why would a rooted user care? I've tripped my flash counter dozens of times at this point, and I am also fully aware that rooting in general is a warranty killer. This is why I am not on a contract-based carrier; my phone is MINE to do what I want with it-rooting and customizing are pretty much the first thing I do with any new phone. Ultimately, what it boils down to is that, as a rooted and heavily customized user, I view this "upgrade" as being anything but; if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Still no notification here in TX. I was able to go back to stock with:

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mob...-guide-return-vm-galaxy-s3-stock-md7-mg2.html

Before I used this my baseband version was MD4-updated to MD7-then MG2. Didn't know I was so far behind and with no updates on my phone I would have never had known haha.

Hopefully I'll get the update soon otherwise I'll end up going back to being rooted with cwm installed.

How does this update work too? It just "appears" while your asleep? The Creep 4.3 Update :creep: .
