Root [Virgin Mobile] WIFI Won't Work

wcs425

Lurker
I've been to all the other threads and nothing seems to give a solid answer.

I initially rooted with TWRP, then some issues came up with the phone and I went through a long process getting it back to stock and re-rooting. Part of the problem is that in the unroot process I flashed the sprint firmware, which was supposed to work but I think messed things up. I finally used this thread to get as damn close to normal as possible, but it still didn't help fix the wifi and bluetooth issues.

I have TWRP 2.4.3.0, SuperSU, Busybox 1.20.2, and basically everything works, but wifi is the big issue.

I have been troubleshooting and reading forums for nearly 18 hours, and if it weren't for the scotches I was drinking, there would be a hole in my wall at this point.

Thanks for any guidance here guys!

I'll try Moon's zip. The big issue is that Kies won't recognize the phone so I can't use that route. Will report back.

I can't in good conscience recommend using my ZIP if you're not on the MG5 baseband. It is based on the MG5 updated stock ROM and probably won't help with WiFi.

If you're not on MG5 baseband, your best option right now is to restore a stock backup (g60's or comp's should work) and then run JerryScript's no-props update. That may solve the issue as the no-props update flashes some firmware files directly. The only firmware file that it doesn't flash directly is the HLOS (which it actually patches instead). If there is a difference between the Sprint one and the VM HLOS, then the no-props update won't flash it and a stock backup doesn't even touch that partition.

So try those first, the ZIP file would probably be the quickest (less work) but the stock backup and no-props update is more likely to work. If neither of those work, I may be able to get a DD pull of the HLOS partition on my phone that you can write to your phone. Again, no guarantee that this won't work, but it's worth a shot.

Moon's zip didn't fix the wifi, kept me where I was before. One difference though, for some reason it DID allow me to connect to Kies, but only on Mac OS X. I was still unable to connect to Kies on PC for whatever reason. Odd.

Yeah, I didn't think the ZIP would work. Try restoring one of the stock backups I linked to in the post above and then apply Jerry's no-props update (also linked to above). Let me know how that works for you.
