Virginmedia Email - recent: prefix problem

Hi All,

I'm having problems setting up my Virginmedia/Blueyonder email on my Desire Z. My username needs to be prefixed with recent: to avoid the mails being removed from the server....as shown here

How do I download mail from the same account on more than one PC or mobile device, using "recent" mode?

The trouble is the outgoing server logon needs to be without the recent: prefix. Setting the smtp server without the recent: prefix seems to go fine until you check the account settings only to find it has reappeared.

I cannot send email with the prefix in place on the smtp server.

Anyone ? pls.... thx

Dont click on the play button above it has nothing to do with my post..

K-9 Mail seems to be the way to go.

I think 80% of the apps on my Desire Z are to put right the bits that dont work properly

I access 3 ntlworld accounts using the standard Android email apps. I use IMAP access and only delete ones that I don't want to download on my mac later. I'm then able to download (using POP3) emails later on my Mac that I have viewed on my phone.
If you want to try this approach you will need to access your email accounts through virgin's webmail interface to check IMAP is switched on - Virgin use a Google email backend, so the settings are laid out as per GMail.

HTH

Thanks for the reply - Sounded like the answer to use imap

Ive just been to virginmedia's website and entered all the imap settings listed in the guide there.

All seemed well and I have tried to send but alas the mail is stuck in the outbox again.

It does logon successfully as I can see all the webmail folders. I have entered all the imap4.blueyonder.co.uk and ssl settings correctly and triple checked.

Hmm

Are you trying to send using mobile data or the virgin media connection?

I send using smtp.virginmedia.com port 465 security type SSL (Accept all certificates) and Require Sign In checked, with my username (full email address) + password entered.
This lets me send whether on wifi at home (on a virgin connection), away from home or over mobile data.

Im trying over my virginmedia connection

The one thing I dont see is the ability to select 'My Server Requires Authentication' on my Desire Z Mail application.

Hmmm.

To figure my settings out I had to work through all the combinations. It's painful, but it can be done. :D

If I change my smtp server from smtp.blueyonder.co.uk to smtp.virginmedia.com I can send in imap.

It sends one mail to the intender recipient and 2 copies back to the account im sending from LOL

Strange, I just get the one copy on my account. You might find a setting in the mail app or in webmail settings that will trim the number of sent copies.
