When I open SMS applications (like Handcent or Chomp) and try to type messages, the keyboard just doesn't appear when I tap the screen. Please help me to make the keyboard work properly...

I assume your tapping IN the text field right.. dumb question potentially, but you'd be surprised. Try holding down menu when your cursor is in the text feel and see what happens.

You mean 'auto on-screen keyboard'? I tried to turn off and turn on this function. With no result...

That only affects SMS notifications, it's meant to bring up the keyboard for a reply before you click into the text box. So if the keyboard won't open to start with that won't help.
jarome, if you go to settings > language and keyboard, have you got any alternative keyboards installed/enabled? If you click once in a textbox so the cursor appears and then long press in the textbox do you get the option to change input method?

Alternative keyboards do not solve the problem. They simply don't appear in edit fields. Just like original one.

Try a reset? It almost seems as if the apk is corrupted or something. However if thats the case I'd assume market keyboards would work. But I don't know, my guess is SOMETHINGS corrupted. If you can't figure it out resetting might be the next step.
