Help virus checker

You don't really need an antivirus program for Android, unless you're installing apps from unknown sources. Don't download apps from untrusted sites, or any apps that have bad reviews.

Some antivirus apps you can use:
TrustGo
Avast
AVG

Edit: removed root wording.

Malwarebytes and Addons Detector are pretty good. The latter can help you with invasive apps.

Respectfully, I don't think that rooting has been correlated to infection.

Most infections come from use habits and rooting allows you to install comprehensive ad blocking (a lot of malware is served through ads clicked by the unsuspecting) and a proper firewall.

Android is a target for malware and even though no Android viruses have occurred to date, if you receive and pass on email attachments to desktop users, a good security scanner may not be a bad idea.

Avoid piracy in all forms, it's the number one infection vector for Android.

Thank you. Do u get Malwarebites and Addons from Play store? Am novice, currently.
Unless you're in Asia with limited access or someplace similar, always get your apps from either the Play Store or the Amazon Appstore, in that order.

The Amazon Appstore does require you to allow your phone to get apps from unknown sources so maybe hold off on that until you're more comfortable with the ins and outs of Android.

To get up to speed about apps, please consider these two threads -

For Asia, the 1Mobile Market is very popular.

Thanks again. I read the attached links u sent but need clarity on a point.
I went to Settings, Apps and found App icons which when selected did show the permissions, most terrifying going by the docs u sent me. But they were eg Assist, Google, Motorola, qualcom, - prob the ones that came with the phone (brother set it up). OK for these to have horrendous permissions? Any standard issue that should be moved to "disabled"? Novice on board.
