Help Virus issue?

Soteris

Lurker
Please help! Whatever browser I am using I am always redirected to several other pages. I did factory reset a couple of times, once a deep factory reset, install a number of antiviruses but the problem still exists. I have tried also after a factory reset not to set my google account just to check if the problem is with my backup and I had the same issue.

What browser are you wanting to use? Does it open a different browser? What pages are opening up? Did you set up the browser to open with specific pages in your account? Something weird here...

I am using google, and yesterday I' ve installed firefox. The pages are not always the same, they are opened in the same browser, and sometimes are of adult content. Also sometimes it is asking me to "upgrade" the version of my phone..

First off are you using the Firefox browser made by Firefox?(Mozilla)
Yes is firefox browser by mozilla ver. 40.0.3. I have installed this yesterday. The main problem is when I am using the google but in some cases I have the same issues with firefox

What a bizarre situation! It seems to me like an app, even if it has been previously removed, installed a routine in the /system partition that hijacks whatever browser you choose and redirects it to certain sites. A factory reset only wipes the caches and the /data partition... it doesn't touch /system. If I woke up in your shoes, I would use ODIN to reflash the stock firmware for your model of Note 4 and rewrite the /system partition. THAT should end this drama.

Thanks a lot, very much appreciated. I will try this in the afternoon and let you know about the outcome. I printed some instructions to follow but since never did before is there anything that I should be aware of? Or maybe the best link to see the procedure?

I would strongly suggest that you remove the SIM and the microSD card before proceeding. They shouldn't be affected, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I did the whole procedure with ODIN last night. Unfortunately both browsers are having the same problem. I do not know what else to do. Is there any way to totally clean or remove the browsers but when to install them back again will not have the same virus? (It is a virus, I' ve checked one of the redirected sites in google). One more thing, is that now I am having the same problem with the browsers on my pc, but not in the same extent...

It may be on your SD card then. Or even written to the SIM. At this point, I'd contact the Samsung or the carrier and explain what's going on. ODIN, I'm pretty sure, rewrites the boot partition as well... so the chances of the virus being phone-based are low. Can you try a different SD card that has no data written on it? That will help isolate the problem.

I will install a brand new SD and also change the SIM and also rewrites the boot with ODIN once again. If the problem still exists then I will contact the SAMSUNG. Thanks a lot once again.
