Virus/Spyware??? Pls Help

G'day guys,

Ive owned a HTC One XL for a few months now and so far its been a pretty good phone. Ive come upon a problem this morning while browsing the net.

I now receive a pop up every minute or so when connected to the internet. The first pop up goes to goo.gl/VL40j or something similar. It then jumps through about 5-6 sites really quickly ending up on this site:

Ive tried googling both these pages with no luck. Ive tried clearing the internet cache and all data, disabling then re-enabling the internet app, killing apps one at a time with no luck. Im running AVG and have tried to other antivuris program scans. Just cant seem to figure out what is causing it. Do i have a virus of some sort? The only way to stop it is to disable internet all together.

Please help, going nuts!
 
Just to add to that, Ive uninstalled (disabled) stock android inter and installed chrome, problem still remains. Just now opens the sites in chrome. Grrrrrrrrr :mad:
 
Likely you downloaded an app or sideloaded one that is doing this to you. If you can backtrack to the day the pop ups started, you may well find an app you installed at about the same time that is doing this. If you uninstall that app, you should be fine.
 
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately for me i havn't installed any apps for quite a while and the pop ups only started this morning. Got me stumped.
 
Yeah I was hoping not to go down that road but I may have to if nothing else works. Ill give it until tomorrow and if I havnt figured it out, ill do the reset.
