Root Vista and XP drivers?

Does anyone know if Vista uses different drivers than windows 7? If so, can you give me a link of where to download them?

What about Windows XP x64? I have the 32bit XP drivers, But I want to add XP x64 if there are any.
 
AFAIK there are no specific drivers for XP or Vista.

There's a post here that has multiple versions of the HTC drivers and those .exe files all have both the 32 and 64 bit versions.

I've included the HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe drivers in the all-on-file for my root/S-OFF guide on XDA since that version was in the original rooting guide that I followed, and suggested that .exe be used unless HTC Sync is already installed and working, in which case uninstall Sync and leave whatever drivers were installed with that.

The only issue that has come up is for Windows 8 users, who can install the same drivers but need to install them differently using a guide linked from the OP, but I haven't had any driver related problems reported by XP, Vista or Windows 7 users, with either the 32 or 64 bit versions.

When I installed HTC sync, I did it on all different OSes and extracted the drivers from each OS under its default installation in programfiles\htc\etc... And there seems to be a difference between the XP drivers and Win7 drivers in file size, So I assume they are different. This is how I got my x86 and x64 drivers for my installer I made.

This is why I was wondering if Vistas drivers were different than windows 7s.. And if they are to please link me.

Same with XP 64bit.. Are there even drivers for XP x64? Does XP x64 use the same drivers as XP x86 or are they different? Anyone have a link if they are?

Basically I am looking for a complete package, That way I can make a solid universal installer that actually works for ANY OS.

I've never seen separate downloads for drivers based on Windows version and there's currently only one version of HTC Sync on this support page of htc.com which supports Windows XP, Vista and 7, but not Windows 8. The drivers for that version are 4.0.1.001, which is one of the files included in the downloads linked from my last post. Perhaps that .exe installation file contains separate versions for Windows XP, Vista and 7. This recent post seems to imply that.

You might also be interested in this post with "universal" Windows drivers, which apparently work with Windows XP, Vista and 7. I don't know if they work with the Evo 3D/V or on Windows 8, but you can download them from this Evo 4G thread (the link in the original post was dead) and you will see that there are only two sets of drivers (32 and 64 bit) for Windows XP, Vista and 7 support.

Yes I see that. I downloaded them, But Ill gave to see if they are the same and if I can keave some of this out or if I need to include Everything.

Just for the heck of it I downloaded and installed HTC Sync Manager which doesn't support the Evo 3D/V but installs successfully including the updated drivers, which work fine with my Evo 3D.

While the drivers were installing I was able to extract the .exe installer which runs an .msi installer when executed. The version of the installer is 4.1.0.001 and can be downloaded here.

My guess is that this version of the installer will run fine on any version of Windows from XP through 8 and install the appropriate drivers for that system configuration since HTC Sync Manager supports all those environments. The installed drivers should also be compatible with devices like the Evo 3D/V that aren't supported by HTC Sync Manager since HTC Sync might be installed as well on a PC that needs to support both programs.

They work fine for me on my Windows 7 64 bit system but if anyone is willing to try these drivers on Windows 8 or another Windows version to confirm that, please download and install them then report back in this thread.

Well, If this works, I had no need to make an installer.

From what I understood, There was issues getting drivers installed on an x64 OS. You would manually have to install the driver in device manager to get it working. My installer actually solved that problem.

If this acutally works on all systems, Seems like they must of fixed their installer or something. Which means, I ended up making something that didnt need to be made. :banghead:

We don't know if it works yet, but if it does we can all consider this process a learning experience. ;)

AFAIK the problem with installing drivers was only on a Windows 8 system and the previous .exe files ran fine on earlier Windows releases, including 64 bit systems. I think what started this was remanifest looking for a single driver installation method that would address the Windows 8 problem where the .exe installer refuses to run and still work on other Windows versions.

Only one way to find out if they did fix everything.

Ill have to test this on my laptop tomorrow. I have a few different OSes on there between the host OS and guest OSes in VirtualBox.

Ill repost whenever I get a chance to test on all the OSes I have.
