visual gmail notification?

Lurker
I apologise if this has been asked and covered in a previous thread. I used a BB for years, and only yesterday was dragged into the current "century" by moving carriers which required a new phone. I have the Samsung Galaxy SII. I am accustomed to having visual notification when a new e-mail arrives in my inbox. This phone has given me a red icon of missed phone calls, SMS text messages, but i do not receive a red vicon notifying me of a new e-mail. I have to remember to go into my g-mail account and check it. Am I missing a setting? Is there somewhere I could change something and allow this to happen?

I also apologise for being technologically ignorant, but I appreciate any help that is able to be provided.

Many thanks in advance.

Open Gmail > Settings > (your account name)...

- Make sure you have Notifications checked
- Also, make sure you have the settings you want to have under "Sound & Vibrate"

Also, you can take a look at the free version of Light Flow. I believe on most all Samsung's it will allow you to change notifications colors based on type of notification. For me, I use blue for anything google related (gmail, calendar, etc.), red for missed calls, white for text messages, pink for anything (calls, texts, etc) related to my girlfriend, etc. You will also be able to change alert tones, frequency, vibrations, etc.
