Visual Impairment

Guys

I am absolutely new here and don't even have an Android phone but I am thinking of getting one. I am visually impaired so screen magnification and text to speech are a necessity. Is that something Android devices have out of the box or will I have to add those features? What would I need to add and where would I find it? Can you install things from a PC or do you have to go to the "market" and install over the air?

Regards

Patrick

Buy a phone with a relatively large screen, for example HTC Desire HD (4.3"). The larger screen will display everything larger given the same screen resolution.

If you need to add an application, simply download it from Android Market over the air.
Either search the Market from your phone, or log-in here: https://market.android.com/ and install the apps remotely.

hey patlucas

I'm in the same boat with severe VI, android does have zoom, speech to text texting, it can certainly have text to speech and navigation apps like zoom text, narrator, jaws, etc throw the android market apps.

you have to go browsing through the market on your phone and get apps over the air.

some addressability features i've said above HAVE to be installed via market apps, but speech to text texting and search are inbuilt.

hope it helps
