Visual Voicemail...Should I cancel my 2.99 month plan

DDK997

Newbie
Hello everyone I just ordered 2 droids included with the 2.99/mo visual voice mail family plan 2 yr contract.

I am looking around now and see that there are free apps out for VV.

Should I cancel my 2.99/mo?
Is the Verizon 2.99/mo VV great compared to these free ones?
Will they charge me to take these options off?

Thanks

i have my voice mail go through google voice. works very well

Agreed.

Free, and I get full chat transcripts, a recording I can access via my phone, and a downloadable audio file if I need to that I can forward, etc, from the GV site.

I have a question about the Google Voice App.
When you get a new Voicemail does it "push" the message to you or does it check in intervals?

I'm aware it notifies you by email which is push so it's not a huge deal.. but that is a bit more clunky than the app notifying you immediately.

I am using Youmail and really like it. But i am going to try google voice as soon as i get the invite i requested, but in short, yes cancel the 2.99. There is no need to pay for VV on an Android phone.

you should cancel. I use Youmail and that works perfect. Lets you block people too. (FREE)

I always thought y pay for something if you can get it for free

How do you get your Cell number voicemail go to Google Voice? I have my Google voice number going through my cell and it notifies me of my messages from my google Voice account. Are you saying my cell voice mails can go to google? How do you set it up?

yea go to google voice on your browser and click on settings. the first tab should be phones. go down to your cellphone and select activate google voice mail on this phone. it will call you and have you enter a five digit number or something. after doing this both your google voice #'s voice mail and your cell #'s voice mail will go through google voice

Thanks for the help! Just did it...good bye Visual Voice Mail!

When I run fusion it has a warning that it uses Call Forwarding and that may cost money. Does anyone know if verizon charges for call forwarding? I just have the cheap 450 minute plan with the $29.99 data plan.

Just found this thread... activated Visual Voicemail the other day just to see what it did, but now I can't figure out how to cancel it. Do I need to call Verizon CS or can I do it online... or better yet, from my Eris?
