I finally broke down and got Visual VoiceMail working on my phone. I couldn't take it any more.
(why does everyone that calls me just leave a message saying "hey call me back", I know you called by looking at the missed calls no need to make me call in to hear a message saying to call you back. If your going to leave a message say something more than "call me, bye")
OK, How to do this:
first off just know that metroPCS will charge you $5 more per month for this.
#1 Metro only allows you to forward calls to local phone numbers so send off and email to support@youmail.com and ask them if they have any access phone numbers in your area with area codes that are not considered long distance or out of your area. if they don't have any in your area I'm pretty sure you can get a dedicated local number from them for $19 per year
#2 they had local access numbers in my area so I had no need to upgrade to a pro account and will be using my free account. Go to YouMail.com and create a free account with your phone number and create a 4 digit pin number.
#3 Call MetroPCS and have them add Call Forwarding feature to your account($5/month)
#4 once they have added call forwarding to your account, on your cellphone dial the following number and hit send/call *74########## (replace the #'s with your local youmail access number)
#5 your phone should now be forwarding your voicemails to YouMail instead of metro. You can listen to voice mails the old way by calling the the access number from your phone, but who wants to do that. The voicemails can also be listened to from YouMail.com on your PC.
What you are going to want to do is download the YouMail app from the android market, this will give you notifications on the phone of new voicemails as well as let you listend/delete voicemail message on the phone without having to call in. Just click the message, listend to it and delete if you want to delete it.
I have used this service for years before switching to metro so I am familiar with them and have not had any issues.
Some added features you will gain from this are:
Smart voicemail greating, greet callers by there name. So when mike calls it say something like Hey Mike, please leave a message.
You can set different voicemail greeting messages for every person in your contacts.
add phone numbers to be blocked and it can play them a message saying your number has been disconnected.
screen calls who block caller ID. Force them to identify them self if they are blocking caller ID.
