vlingo beta

Vlingo beta is now out. Seems to work wonderfully.
Vlingo Products

I know, iphone blah, blah, but there's no video of it running on android. And it works just the same.

I can send to apk to anyone that wants it. Or if someone wants to host it from a site, let me know and I'll send it to you.

Or I could just paste the link here: [FONT=Verdana,Geneva,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif] http://vlingo.com/androidbeta

You have to access the link from your phone or download to pc and copy to the sd card on your phone and install from there.

Works very well! Can't wait to try it while driving. Wonder how well it will do with with road noise?

Thanks for the post!

I got a zip file, and my APK installer doesn't see it. Yeah, I'm a noob, what do I do from here to install it? It's on the root of my SD card.

Wow.. just the texting feature makes Vlingo more than useful for me.

I had Vlingo when I owned a BlackBerry....was really kinda bummed when I found out there wasn't an Android version. Thrilled to know we've got one now!!! Love this app.

Is this only going to work on 2.1? I think I read something on another forum that it only works on 2.0 or higher. Anyone try it on 1.5 yet? Thanks.

Hmmmmmmmm.....Got it to work by saying "Text *****, Hi, how's it going?" but I haven't been able to figure out how to turn it on while during regular texting. If I hit and hold the magnifying glass it goes to search rather than text, and I am not seeing the microphone on my keyboard that it says I should.

I think this is going to be awesome once I get past the user error/ignorance part, thanks very much to the OP for the link.

Frisco, you running this on 1.5? I thought it was only for 2.0 or higher.

I had to get rid of it. :o It went in and installed, I used it for about ten minutes and thought I had found one of the best apps ever.

Then, later, when I went back to do some normal texting, my keyboard would only come up half-way when I went to use it.. it would not draw across the screen, just partially. Then the device froze altogether and I realized I'd messed up by taking the chance at the install of that app.

Battery-pull then uninstall. I do not recommend it for 1.5.

It's still a great find, though, and when/if 2.1 comes around for us I'll definitely put it back in.

I have to admit, I thought incompatible applications would not even install on Android products. When the installation was successful I thought that was a sign it was going to work on the 1.5.

Of course, it is beta software. :o

That is strange that you even got it to load. I tried to download it a couple times on my phone directly from the link and it downloaded, but when I tried to install it said not compatible with this phone. I am still on 1.5. Guess I will just have to wait for the update.

I like it but I wish we didn't have to lose the Sense keyboard.

You don't have to. Just disable the vlingo keyboard and you'll still use the stock. Easy way to do it:

Tap "vlingo" on the widget>keyboard>open keyboard chooser>touch input

Viola, no vlingo keyboard

Fwiw I found the "android beta" version at the Vlingo website (the iPhone page comes up from the link in the first post).
