vlingo question..?

Hey for those who know.. how do you wake up your vlingo when driving? i tried saying wake up vlingo, hey vlingo and others but it does nothing..

i tried when phone is on stand by and when at home screen. other than that vlingo works great.. any ideas?

In a video on the vlingo website, the guy in the car says 'hey vlingo' and it says back 'whats shakin?' I cant get that? :(

I haven't tried it yet myself, but I'm wondering if there is some sort of "on switch" you'd have to toggle so it knows to start listening for you. Does it come with a widget that you can use for a quick wakeup?

dont think so,. im still playing around with it. i highly recomend it for driving though. just ask something like what is 5 times 20 and its tell you right away

You pretty much have to have the program open. If you use the widget, click on the car, leave it open, and then it will recognize a wakeup call. If you go to menu>customize main prompt, you can change what it says back to you to anything you want. I also like the "what's shakin'?" and get a chuckle out of it.

You can also configure it in settings to automatically open when a bluetooth is turned on or when you plug it into your car, or something like that. I don't use that part, but I remember reading it.

This is the 2nd time I'm trying Vlingo and trying to make myself like it. It blocks voice commands from my Blueant headset and wants to be the only one in charge. It seems like it should be good, and I'm trying it again.

I think some of the bugs have been worked out, like restarting Evos every time a bluetooth headset is turned off. I think that's fixed.

The voice recognition on it is pretty amazing.

Hope this helps.

i wish they could get it to do google talk messages as well as the text ones most of my messages are gt now rather than regular text

sorry i cant find that??

edit.. found it!

what pretty much sucks is like you said you have to have it on to wake it up. you cant have your phone darked out (stand by). so that means while driving i have to always have my screen on and never time out! but i think the longest time out period is only 30 min. you cant have it 'never timeout'. dumb!

Glad you found the setting. I should have mentioned that menu is from the in-car window.

That's a good point about the timeout. I haven't run into it, as I haven't kept it on and pretty much select it when I need it from a shortcut. I'm trying to like it because I think it seems good, but so far it doesn't grab me. Will give it a little more time.

But you've got to admit the vlingo response you configure yourself is fun. I might have mine say "now what?" or "wth?"

Isn't there a setting on the phone to always have the screen on when USB is plugged in?

i looked for it in the phones settings and no i dont see it... the best i have is 30 min before timeout. :(
all i have to do then is touch the screen quickly every once in a while to restart count ;)

PS. vlingo NEEDS web browser navigation! once it brings up google search for you, your on your own to touch screen. they need it so you can say something like 'click first link' etc etc

I use Tasker to get around this restriction. When I have Maps, Navigation, or Vlingo open, I have Tasker set the timeout to 10 hours :)

It goes back to my default timeout when I exit any of the above apps.

This doesn't bother me as much since I keep my Cap plugged into it's car charger.

I absolutley love using the In Car Mode myself. The app says it's a beta version, so I'm hoping it's something you don't have to pay for when they release the final version. On the iPhone you have to pay an extra $5 to use "voice to text" and "voice to email."

My only critique is when Vlingo first came out it allowed you to access apps with your voice by saying "open" then the app name. Wish they brought that back.

ya i have a car charger too for X10. ill try tasker so i dont get a timeout. this app is important to me because im on the road alot for work as a courier.

curious.. is tasker an app from crafty apps? its $6.19 canadian??

Yes. I think if you go to the developer's site to purchase, it's slightly cheaper and you may have a longer trial period, which you will DEFINITELY need. 15 minutes won't cut it to trial Tasker.

ok.. i am NO nerd when it comes to phones and such. im trying tasker now but am so lost haha. i did manage to change it so my screen timeout is 7 hours :)

but is there a easy to read guide on how to set up tasker?

Yeah, you kind of have to understand programming a little to use Tasker. But once you learn it, the sky's the limit on what you can control on the phone. Check out the Tasker thread in this forum.

Maybe there's another app out there that can just change your timeout setting. You'll have to search the Market.

In my opinion, Tasker can pretty much replace any app on the market that controls your phone settings...so it could be worth the investment of time and money to get up to speed, because you won't have to spend money on any other settings-control or profile-control app.

i dl'ed it from the main site.. put it to my sd card and ran the program. it didnt ask for any codes or money or anything. im not sure if i have only 15 days or what on this one?
