Vodafone are a bunch of *****

Sorry for the language but i am sure you will understand, and i don't know where to post this but as i have a desire looks like here is as good as a place as any.
Vodafone have now decided they are getting rid of unlimited internet and now there maximum is 500mb per month, i have already received a message (less then 24 hours before they decided on this) saying i have gone over my monthly internet usage. surely because when i signed my contract with them my internet was "unlimited" they cannot charge me for my usage until my contract runs out in November next year? if they do i am going to cancel my contract with them witch also costs money. They did this to cut down traffic because traffic creates slow networks and slow networks don't attract customers but neither does treating existing customers like something they found on the bottom of their shoe.

I'm sure by law if a company changes a binding contract and if you are not happy with the changes, you can opt out of your contract with them and not have to pay the remaining fees. I'm not 100% sure on this, maybe someone else has more info on the subject.

I would have thought they have covered their parses and this would have been covered in the smallprint.

Most "unlimited" data plans are limited to around 750Mb or at least subject to a fair usage policy (which is probably where vodafone have you)

Seems all operators are doing this.

I am orange and have a plan which is 500Mb included but part of the choice for this was that the "unlimited" plan was actually 750Mb

So if they don't have you on their fair use policy there was almost certainly a clause saying they can change your contract with x months notice and vodafone did announce this a few months ago

I thought Vodafone were forcing the issue for Android owners. (read desire) to get 1gb of internet. Give them a call. Say you are displeased and get your gig. Scrap that go instore. Call centres are atrocious.

Gotta agree with the OP on this - the way voda have handled this is just awful. Information kinda leaked out of them without any real announcement and different vodafone employees have been giving all sorts of different information. Personally Im not gonna bother cancelling my contract, its too much hassle and I generally stay within the 500mb limit anyway (not really sure how though, 500mb isnt a lot for a phone like the desire). But once its up theres no way Im staying with voda, just because of the mess theyve made of announcing this. Its a shame as Ive been one of their customers for years but their customer service & communication has gone from being pretty good to plain awful. Im sure its the same for most/all networks but Ill try a different one next time. :(

I understand your frustration but please abide by the rules on "terms not to use", whether or not letters are replaced with asterisks.

I've moved this thread to the Vodafone forum as it will be of concern to all customers. Oh, and I'm sure that if the supplier alters the T&C of your contract part-way through you can cancel without penalty.

i am with you, i am leaving my contract going to try call them in 15 mins see what happens failing that i am gunna go in store but gunna check the small print on my contract now

When I called to upgrade I asked about this and was told that the advisor had received an email that morning to advise that they were not going ahead with that policy. He said instead that you will be allowed to go over if it happens now and again but you will receive texts to let you know that you are getting close....Looks like this was another load of BS by Vodafone.

I saw that they were giving away 1gb mobile internet and felt rather cheated at being given 500mb so I emailed the india division of VF and said that when i upgraded I was told I would get 1gb but the contract shows 500mb. At first they said tough but I emailed back and threatened them with Ofcom and Trading Standards and hey presto I'm now on the 1gb plan.

I have got quite a few bits added this way on policies. Its best to do asap after you upgrade tho.

VF suck, just need to know how to play them :D

If they change the terms of the contract you have a right to cancel within 30 days. I don't know how it works with the phone - wether you have to return if you only had it a couple of months or whatno, but at least its a way out.

If an operator changes the terms and this has a negative effect for the consumer (IE reducing free minutes, increasing call charges etc) then the consumer reserves the right to cancelthe contract with NO PENALTY. Does this mean you keep the handset.... yup. The transfer of ownership of the handset occurs when you sign the original contract.

O2 and Orange have fallen foul to this in the past in a BIG way. I also took Orange to task recently when they lost 3g signal in my area. They wanted to change my contract, I said no ta - gimmie my PAC, cyas later!

My Vodafone is currently:

1Gb of monthly data (I mostly use WiFi)
Unlimited (3,000) texts
900 minutes any network
Friends & Family

So I think they have improved their tariffs... Also, they gave me a free Samsung Galaxy S for upgrading. But I do feel your pain... I've had some problems with both T-Mobile & Orange.

If you do get out of them, switch to giffgaff, they're cheap and have truly unlimited data. Plus they've got a whole payback scheme too.
