voice mail password

Is there a way to bypass having to type in the password each time when I have a VM message and click on that app icon? Seems like I didn't have to do that in my previous phone - HTC Hero with Sprint. I'm now with Verizon.

Thanks.

Hum. I didn't have to enter a password; but I changed the voice mail icon to be a new dial #:

my phone number,passcode

(i.e, if your number is 6031111111 and your passcode is 5555 then create a widget that dials 6031111111,5555)

Btw my reason was that I was worried one morning i might accidently sign myself up for visual mail (since you cannot disable that in the default icon).

Btw here is the faq that mentions the setup:

thanks but I'm a newbie to this stuff. I checked your FAQ link but could not find the step-by-step instructions even when drilling down.

Can you post those instructions or perhaps a direct link? I have no clue how to change the voice mail icon.

Jack

First add a number to your contact list (by clicking phone; then contact)
Name it "Voice Mail"
and add a phone number (I used my # "," pwd; but *86 might work in place of # - not sure if using # causes me to be charged minutes for accessing voice mail)
-
now do the below steps to create a new voice mail icon

long press on the screen it will ask you if you want to create:
widgets
shortcuts
folkders
wallpappers
-
select shortcut
-
then select app action (it is at the top of the list of shortcuts)
then select direct dial
then select a name from the list of contacts

nice to not have to hit the password, thanks!

Or you could get google voice and use that as your default voice mail, and then you can get the app and hear the call without dialing anything.

Was wondering if that was possible, thanx.

OK, I just tried something odd after I tried the above directions for adding the app action ...I went into Settings, Call Settings, Voicemail Settings, then did *86, (N.B. that is a comma. Use one or two at your pleasure) followed by my password, then saved. When I used the Speed Dial 1 (which is preset for Voicemail), it did correctly send the password!
I have no idea if this would work without doing the app action, but I suspect it would.
So, despite the phone telling us that you cannot change the preset speed dial for voicemail, that appears something that can be tweaked.
