Help voice mail

I don't understand how it works...on my old Samsung S2 I had a voicemail app.

On my new S5 and S6 there doesn't seem to be a dedicated voicemail app. I received a call that supposedly went to voicemail on the S5 (got a notification to that effect) but I couldn't find any trace of it. The notification said, to call another number and I had to have a password, IIRC.

The S6 likewise doesn't have a native voicemail app although Verizon added one. But the Verizon apps will not work anymore because I am on TotalWireless now (I'm going to uninstall or disable all the Verizon apps.)

So...how does this work? Or do I have to download a voicemail app from Playstore?

Each carrier is different, I'm using Cricket, aka AT&T and our voicemail works by dialing a number, with a pin. They also offer a voicemail app. Check with your carrier customer support, it should be a 3 digit number you can call

Thanks again...that's what it turned out to be. I am just so new at this and only have experience with the S2 that I thought there would have to be a dedicated app and a corresponding icon. But no, it's just as you describe and I can get rid of Verizon Voicemail.
