Samsung Voice typing doesn't recognize the period all of a sudden?

My Samsung S22 Ultra has all of a sudden stopped recognizing the period (.) in voice typing. It used to be that you can just say "period" and it would put the period punctuation mark in there. Now it just types out the whole word "period" instead. Other punctuations are unaffected, such as comma, exclamation point, or question mark, even colon (:) is still working! But the most common one, period, is not working? Just started happening a couple of days ago. Anyone else notice that? I use the voice typing quite a bit here.

I've also tried switching the keyboard, from Google Gboard to Samsung keyboard but no difference.

according to this:

punctuation is not automatic. if you pause after a sentence, google will put the appropriate punctuation.

check to see if your phone is up to date.

There has been no changes in awhile to the system that I could see. However, the punctuation started working again on its own, a couple of days ago. Now the question is why does this seem to happen so often periodically (ha! pun).
