Root voicemail from MetroPCS about a required update

Hello,

I just received a voicemail from MetroPCS saying that my phone, LG Connect 4G, requires an update by August 11. The message says to accept the update when asked, I guess OTA update, or go to a corporate store for the update.

I'm currently using the #TWO ROM v1.8 and I'm in Los Angeles. Does anyone know if this "update" will change the ROM software, to like VV5, or change something else like baseband, PRL, etc.?

I'm just a little worried if this "update" will mess up my phone since it doesn't have stock ROM... Anyone out there who got this update? Was it OTA or did you have to take it into the corp store? Can non-stock ROMs receive this update OTA?

Thanks in advance for you input.

We (over here) just figure that this is for stock vv5, which is available (and rooted) for download.

I did not receive an OTA update, BrokenOut and ZVA. I'm just going to wait until the 11th and flash rooted vv5 or a custom firmware if it gets made in time.

The OTA push will not work from metro as you have Number Two like me which has been stripped down of a ton of stuff including MetroCare which updates the phone OTA. Going in and accepting the update, will bring you back to stock.

You are in some luck though, Idrifta is currently attempting to port VV5 into his rom. I believe he has a device now to test as well, if not, there is people who are currently testing. Not sure if that will arrive before the 11th.

I who also have Number Two like you, have received that VM... and a text message about two hours later or so saying a OTA push failed to my phone, and for me to see a Metro Corp store to get the update. But I also know, if I go into the store with Number Two loaded, they will not touch my phone.

Thanks SegamanXero and AWaterFountain for the info.

I'll prolly wait till the 11th to see if a new custom ROM is made based on vv5.

Hopefully and maybe the current ROMs won't be affected that badly...

Ha ha, I think I spoke too soon.

Looks like my 4G is already gone. Guess I'm gonna have to install vv5 myself and root it, then wait for a custom ROM.

Serious? They said we had until the 11th in the voicemail and text message they sent. I guess that was bullcrap. Did you try turning airplane mode on and off or restarting the phone?

Yea after listening to the voicemail my internet went poop then i tried airplane mode and it was back mabye im over thinking could it be possible that is the ics update probably not if its not then what is it mabye a small update to get T-Mobile lte :D

Knowing MetroPCS, they are not going to give us ICS (which is old hat now, I want Jelly Bean... LOL) as they don't want to pay for it. =/

The update apparently is VV5, and from what I am guessing it is indeed to mitigate the merge of MetroPCS+T-Mobile AWS LTE, and will give us access to the T-Mobile side of things for LTE data. Hopefully we will see increased speeds.

My screen is cracked but it still wrks fine however because no one has done this yet I will go back to stock and take this bitch in for the update and get the screen fixed while I'm at it lol! I will post what happened as soon as I get all setup if someone hasn't done so by then. I'm not to worried about wiping this phone clean I've been doing it a lot during testing on the #2rom for vv5 with LDrifta so I will do it again and take it in, wish me luck lmmfao!!!

Hey guys, just some info

I do have vv5 installed, rooted, and i received this message over night:

"MetroPCS has attempted to send an important software update to your phone Please go to a MetroPCS store or accept Update prior to 8/11/13 to retain data speeds"

Maybe because I uninstalled MobileCare, its not recognizing that its VV5 already? Or maybe it is some other kind of update? Idk, just laying some info.

I'm on vv5 and rooted too but I still have the mobile care app installed, I never deleted it and I got the same text so we know its not the app that's causing the failed update

Well this just made things more interesting.... haha any luck getting it to update ?

I keep getting the same text. even though I'm already on vv5 might it be a radio update I'm gonna use sammyz cab and stay stock to see if that helps ... i even tryed to updating my self through mobile care app useing any cut to create a shortcut but it just searched for update then closes with no sucess...

Was just in the store today. Confirmed update to vv5. If you are rooted or running a custom rom theres nothing they could even if they would try. Options: A- flash vv5 available on this forum. B- Unroot your stock rom and update manually via metropcs.com or retail store. C- Flash stock rom of your choice from this forum before doing option B.

I too went to the corperate store and they said I don't need an update, with me having ZVA.

Anyway I want vv5. Can someone explain how to unroot. I'm a noob.thanks.

I need a computer, download mode & flash a rom? Seems more like update instructions. I don't remember to root my cell being this complicated.

I can't just factory reset? That won't work?

Thanks for reply.

I have VV5 loaded and rooted but cant get the cwm to load any idea what im doing wrong.

What did u install it from if u used rom manager wait till it say complete anf then end of downloading or flash via terminal or gui flash or something like that on the market to flash the cwm image
