Help Voicemail Notifcation

I do not get notifications that I have a voicemail. Never have since I got the phone. When I click on the Voicemail App it always shows (0) voicemails...but then I'll call my voicemail and I'll have 2 or 3 in there. I don't get a notification in my notifcation bar either. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing? This happened to me on my Droid Eris too...after a while it just stopped giving me notifications for voicemails.

I have tinkered around with both of my phones trying to find a Voice Mail notification setting either in setting > Call settings or in the dial-er itself to no avail. The only thing I know is that if I miss a call I get a red handset in notification bar. When I pull it down it tills me if I have a voice mail or not.

It is showing the number of new voicemails that came in since the last time you ran the Voicemail App.

Is it possible that the 2 or 3 that are listed are voicemails that were there the last time you visited and you left without listening to them?

This would account for there being nothing new in notifications and no sound going off for new voicemails ... there weren't any.

When displaying the home screen go to ...

Settings | Sound | Notification ringtone and select one.

It has been a while ... I think it defaults to nothing being set and needs you to choose one.

Yep, that works on both of my phones, but if I miss the call in the first place I am not going to hear the notification sound. So the visual in the Notification is the key for me.
