Hi and welcome to Android Forums!
If you have adjustable volume with headphones in, but nothing otherwise, then I have good news and bad news for you.
The good news is that a data wipe / factory reset will probably not fix this. So you need not do it. The sound amplifier and circuitry in the phone are apparently fine, or the sound wouldn't work in the headphones, either.
The bad news is that it sounds to me like your speaker is bad. If the phone is not under warranty or extended protection plan, then you would want to pay for repairs, which will likely be necessary. If the phone can't be repaired, then it would need replaced.
This isn't
definite, mind you: I'm troubleshooting this over the Internet. But think about it: sound out of the headphone jack, no sound from the speaker. What would YOU conclude is bad? No, this diagnosis would have to be confirmed by technicians at Virgin Mobile. There ARE cell phone repair places out there: but I'm not sure of (a) their ability or willingness to replace a speaker; and (b) whether it would cost less to just buy a gently used Android device from
Swappa or other reputable place to replace your Rise.
Sorry to be the bearer of such bad news, but that's what I'm getting out of this. Your next action would be to contact Virgin to determine your warranty status and estimated cost of repair. Hope this has helped you and good luck.
It's great to have you here
