Volume on Android too high!

Hi,
I ercently bought an adabter to use my own headphones with my android phone (an HTC TyTn II installed with Android 2.1), and found I couldn't lower the volume to what I want it to be.

Is there any way to lower it further than the current system allows?

If so, I would love to know

I have very sensitive ears.

Have the same issue and haven't yet found a solution. Lots of people are complaining about this. Surely there must be some way to do it via software.
